I have two core consoles. On one the drive fails to read (open tray issue) and the other has an AV problem (I see nothing, but can hear audio - this one has the Toshiba drive). So, I would like to switch the laser or rather replace the laser on the Liteon Drive with the Toshiba laser. Visually they both look the same and the process doesn't seem to be all that difficult. I tried fixing my Liteon for the open tray error, but no guide on the internet works for me, and they are a few who are advising that replacing the laser with a laser of diff make should work as well. Is this true? Is it that simple?

No it doesnt work like that. It needs to be the correct laser for the correct drive. On top of that open tray can mean anything from a bad laser to a bad worm motor or even a bad spindle motor. There is troubleshooting that should be done before you start replacing parts.

Try tweaking the laser POT before you do anything. Otherwise lasers are relatively cheap, you just gotta order the right one. Motors rarely die, so I'd start with the laser.

See these for POT info:

Thank you so much for the tips, guys!

So, like I posted in my other post, I have it working with the POT trick! Btw, just another question - does the POT trick last forever? or is it just an indicator of a weakening lens? Should I prepare myself for buying another x360 in the near future?

Well now that you tweaked the POT, you are putting more electricity through the laser, which I suppose would theoretically shorten its lifespan, but it could last years like that. A lot of times lasers even come off the production line uncalibrated, so yours may not even have weakened that much.

But if your 360 works in all other aspects, I would not prepared for buying a new one. If the DVD drive stops working again, you can replace the whole laser for between 5 and 15 dollars, depending on drive model. Or the whole dvd drive for between 30 and 60, usually closer to 30. I think the next problem you face will be the RROD though.

On the one with the AV issue try the xclamp fix or reflow. It is your GPU causing the audio but no video. I had two doing the same thing and a reflow did the trick.
