OK so managed to get a full dump from my 74850c but it messed up and can't be reflashed, not intrested in trying to fix it anymore just going to get a new drive.

So a few questions. Can I copy the info from my liteon ofw into a benq LT and flash that to a new benq drive and it be live safe or does it have to be a liteon drive?

If i wasn't worried about live then I could just get the benq and flash it with 1.6 or something like that right?

Thanks

Open your original OFW as source, BenQ LT as target then spoof across. However using anything but a Liteon won't be safe on Live. If you're not going on Live then the BenQ LT 1.1 will still play all Waves...1.6 is out of date now. Flashing is the same method for 1.6 and LT.

Shame that the drive you dumped wouldn't respond in JF...must be something simple IMO if you managed to get the keys out with the MRA method. Did you check your repaired traces with a multimeter to check they're not grounded?

Liteon's can't be bricked if you're careful and I don't think yours is as it was working fine when you dumped the keys. If you're good enough with an iron to do the hack then the repair should be just as easy..I'd give it another go.

EDIT...just read your post again. If you've erased the drive then JF won't pick up the drive properties anyway. Just make sure you've got the correct SATA port, send the Erase in JF, power cycle and if you've repaired the traces properly you should get the Flash properties. It just does the same as LOErase in DOS

Here a pic of the repair http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4021/469952...0e1b1c361_b.jpg
I really can't see anything wrong with it and the traces seem fine with a multimeter. Ideas?

It just the pc will NOT see the drive no matter what, I'm using the xbox for power. it won't show the drive not matter how many l-o-erase or JF attempts. Thats why I'll have to get a new drive as this one wont be flashed. Don't have another tower to test it on only laptops. And the tower doesn't have a via chipset.

Found a liteon on ebay so might just get that, no soldering needed to flash it right? only need to solider to get the key all flashing is just done over sata.

So you're flashing the drive on a laptop...you 100% sure the chipset is compatible? Could be the reason for your issues, I've never used a laptop to flash, I always use a VIA card on my desktop. I know laptops can be very troublesome and I wouldn't want you to run into exactly the same issue with this new drive.

Yep, no soldering to get a blank one flashed...power cycle to get it into Vendor mode then write.

Nope flashing with a tower, onboard sata Intel chipset 828653g, but cant check on another pc as all the others in the house are laptops, but not using one to try and flash.

This is a pretty current list of compatible chipsets and I can't see yours in the SATA section. You got the firmware off the drive so it must be compatible to some extent but I can't say for 100% that it's up to the erase and write.

If you're going to do any more flashing you really can't go wrong with a £/$10 VIA 6241 card.

Currently going to get a liteon off a guy on ebay au$30 so not really that bad, plus I'll have a spare laser and stuff from my old drive.
