Hi,

I recently switched from mtkflash to dosflash for Samsungs. Dosflash16 works fine for both MS 25 MS28 based drives but dosflash32 is having a hard time with MS28 drives.
Like with the 16 bit version, I resend the command to get the mtk vendor info but it is never able to detect the SST chip. Also the PC becomes sluggish. when the MS28 is on.

If I reboot to dos and flash the same drive with an MS25 based firmware and then go back into Windows and start up DOSFLASH32 .. every thing is fine. I can read erase and write with no problems or PC sluggishness.

I have tried with the trusty via card as well as ICH7 but no go.

Any ideas? Is 1.7 around the corner? Is dosflash32 and MS28 only doable with nvidia?

Thanks for all the cool tools that have come out recently.

if that works fine I would stick with that

MS28 firmware has protected firmware so it must be unlocked to work.... MS25 has no firmguard and will just flash with dosflash...

Originally there was a soldering mod to downgrade your MS28 to MS25 so it could be flashed, then came the 10 second trick, which basically lets you catch the MS28 on boot up before the firmguard becomes active...

C4eva also produced a 0800 DVD that lets you unlock a MS28 running iXtreme, just burn it and put it in the MS18 for 20 seconds and Dosflash32 will see it no probs... It doesn't work for Stock f/w....

The 10 second trick works in windows with Dosfash32 for Nforce 4 chipsets but not for Via or Intel........ The Pc will lock up on via ot Intel....

The reason for going to dosflash32 was to get out of DOS and into Windows. No more rebooting to dos partition. No more rebooting with samsungs after dumping to write.

Thanks. would it be possible for future releases work with Intel or VIA?

I am going to try the 0800 disk but I never had any luck with that. I always had to flash the Samsungs with 0800 firmware to get them into 800 mode.

Benie, I recently discovered this a few weeks ago....

I have mentioned it to calloused on IRC and he was trying many combos of chipset / drive / timing / firmware state but he was having as Podger suggests...locking up of windows / becoming sluggish etc.

I can unlock a drive for flashing in DF32 with immediate power off/on like yourself - If its not immediate, it becomes sluggish for me, out another quick power off/on while DF32 is resending unlocks still.

What via drivers are you using? Im using via 530c

Calloused: Could you try them?

Drivers I use uploaded here (Thanks Podger & 360mods.net )

Hi Oggy

Yer its the 5.80c (newest i think) running Vista Ultimate 32bit.. been doing ms28's like this for a good few weeks or longer, i thought everyone was i didn't realize ms28's on via in windows was causing problems.. I use a 360Xtractor for the power to the drive, only time i get slowdown or lockups is if the ms28 is blank (erased) then turned off and back on (then i need to flash in dos with mtk..)

By the way its a via 6421a PCI card with just 2 internal sata ports.. i seem to have 100% success with one of the ports with all brand of drives but other port seems picky so i don't use that one.

I had been using 530c for the longest time. After having problems booting into windows with an 0800 flashed Samsung, Textbook suggested trying the latest drivers 580c. I uninstalled the VIA drivers and ran the set up for 580c all good. This let me rip rip with the Samsung.

So now tonight, a few minutes before re-installing 530c, I went into device manager and checked the driver details and found 5.1.2600.530. Strange considering I installed 580c less than a month ago.
I uninstalled the VIA drivers and installed 530c rebooted all that .. checked device manager same driver details.

I connected an MS25 and I could not read erase or write. After messing a bit I found it would only work if I powered on the drive after starting dos flash.

Anyway.. I flashed the 25 with some 28 shut off drive. Closed Dosflash32 Started Dosflash32 powered drive and ...

AWWWW YEAH!!!

UPDATE

I remember between the time I installed 5.80 the first time I had one of those wicked Hitachis that would not work with VIA. I removed the VIA from device manager and refreshed and let windows choose the driver files. This left me with some sort of mismatched driver .. I ended up having to use the ICH7 to flash the troubled Hitachi but I never bothered to reinstall 580.

Anyway.. I just got through reinstalling 580a and I can do the 28 without any power button trickery (having to turn it on after starting dosflash).

Aww yeah.. its all windows now baby.

Thanks guys

Final Update.

When I use any VIA firmware that adds the VIA platform manager to add/remove program, 580, 560 etc etc. XBOX Back Up Creator doesn't work. Which is strange because I remembered installing 580c to be able to get into Windows with the 0800 Samsung.

Anyway, XBC sees all media as 4TB .. I went back down to 530c and XBC is fine and I can use dosflash32 for all Samsungs as long as I leave the Sammy off until dosflash32 starts disabling drives.

It is a win win..

Thanks again

Err in the above post I said VIA firmware but it was a typo.. meant drivers.

Thanks Benie I dont install any other software either. The raid manager .. nothing I just choose the driver after running set up . But for me, the newer driver packages add VIA PLATFORM MANAGER to the Add/Remeve program list. It appears to be just an uninstaller

It also changes the name of the via card in device manager and ads numbers at the end.. 3249 or something. I am no longer at that computer.. and it no longer has the "newer" drivers on it.. so I cant tell you exactly..

What is your via card listed as? Do you have the VIA platform manager in add/remove.. just curious.

Thanks again Oggy for turning me on to dosflash32 ...I should have mentioned you right away as you can see I was just trying to get additional info and figure out how to be one of the lucky ms28 window flashers.
