I need to cut out a face from a .jpeg file and paste it to a new image with a transparent background....can anyone tell me how to do this with photoshop? I tried but can't figure it out. thanks.

i think you need to use the lasso tool and cut it. Havent done it myself so who knows.

Use the lasso tool (or magnetic lasso, sometimes works better) to select the face and then copy it.

File/new
Select "transparent" as background in the dialog box.

Paste, and use the eraser to fix up any edges that might need fixing up.

You can also draw a mask with the vector tool. This will give you a much nicer edge on the image.
