Hello all, -I have done/am doing some research regarding the topic; I'm not finding much -flame if you feel obligated.

I have an older 360, flashed w/ xtreme53 (yes, its old)

W/the addition of the NXE, I'm finding that some newer games won't play/aren't recognized by the drive, although they were prior to installing the NXE.

At any rate, I think its time to update the FW

My drive was originally flashed via the SamTool method -I have what is believed to be my original(backup) firmware, but when checking the keys against newer tools I seem to have problems.

In using the SamTool method, I have a txt file w/the drive key -I think I have all I need....

My question are these:

What should I be on the lookout for when I start this upgrade?

Who has been successful/failed in a similar upgrade attempt?

What advice can constructive individuals give? :-)

Thanks in advance,

R Davis

The old xtreme plays all the games. Only iXtreme was having issues with the "wave3" games.

I suspect your drive is wearing out. Buy a new laser or a new drive. You can also attempt a laser pot tweak.

If you want to update anyhow make sure you make a good dump of your current bin just to clear up what your correct key is. Verify its good by opening the dump in firmware toolbox.

Thanks for the suggestion; this is the weird thing...

PRIOR to the NXE install (via USB drive) game A (Left4Dead) would play

AFTER the NXE install game A does not play (dashboard shows a reading of disc then displays open tray)

However...

game B (College Hoops 2k8 (older game)) plays
game C (Tomb Raider Rev( I think) plays

It's the weirdest thing.

A buddy suggested that I try the NXE update via live and not thumb drive -I was just too lazy to open the PIX for that. (I never use LIVE)

Argh! -my NXE was installed via thumb drive from a release on rtt.

a buddy suggested that I connecto to live and get all updates -I can't even freakin' do that.

I started w/ACL in my PIX....I've even gone far as connecting the XBOX directly to the modem -no dice

WTFF!?

Anyone have ANY advice?

To recap:

NXE installed via thumb drive, Samsung FW: xtreme53, some games work; example Tomb Raider Legend -NCAA09 does not -the game is not even recognized in the drive -simply say open tray.

Folks have made mention of a bad/failing laser -possibly, but it can't be that easy -the games worked prior to NXE.

How about the live connection? -started by opening the PIX >>directly to the modem and I receive the message regarding port 3074.

-Any chance there are insightBB customers who may have experienced the same?

Thanks in advance for any assistance,

R Davis

Afraid that syntaxerror329 is right, it's sounds as if you laser is just going bad.

Updating a Samsung drive is explained very well in the Jungle Flasher User Guide(link in my sig below)
But I don't think that'll do the trick.
IMO you need to replace your drive. BenQ's are very dependable as well as Hitachi 78's (79's too but they require a pesky unlock procedure) But you could always go with another Samsung, although they are one of the notoriously buggy ones, I think its about 50/50 chance you get a bad one.

I typically buy my drives at eTech4sale.com just search xbox 360 drive.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Good Luck!
