Hello,

I got stuck with a goddamn unknown or old ass POS aladdin probably 2-3 years out of date. I was under impression I was going to get Aladdin Adv New Edition or something like Xeno. But when i was shipped the chip I got some aladdin that was red pcb and no markings other than L1, DO, BT, and X printed on chip. I've seen other's on these boards where there was white lettering identifying each pad on the chip, but mine doesn't have it. I don't have that potentiometer to control leds or the word "contrast". On the back of the chip it just says on a sticker "Aladdin Advance v1.0-v1.6." Great! Here's my problem. I know I soldered everything correctly, because I've another xbox before. Plus, I have confirmation that my soldering works because I get glowing Orange LED. I read in another posting that that's what aladdin's do....they change operation status LED to orange until you change it with EVtool. Meaning the chip is enabled.

So, here's situation. I can't get it to flash? How's this chip flash itself...through a CD or what? I tried burning a DVD ISO of M8plus bios....that didn't work. I used Nero to make image, but should I have used Craxtion? I have a v1.0 w/ a Thompson drive ,therefore I used DVD-R. It can't read CD-RW right? Anyways what do I suppose to see once it's flashed with bios....like an EvoX shield at corner of screen? All I'm seeing is the default dash.....but how come I get orange led? I'm under the impression that you need a programmer to flash it? Anyone know? The chip on my Aladdin is an SST49LF020A....this is the ROM chip right? I hope I don't have to hotswap with another modded xbox....I don't have one. I need to program this chip so I can finish modding it. Pleasse help me anyone. I spent too much time already.

This will flash with Eurasia or via the evoxdash. If you get no flashbios screen then likely the chip is already flashed with a hacked bios and does not need re-flashing. If it will boot Slayers or an evox boot disc then it is suitably flashed. If it is only booting the retail bios then the chip is not working despite the orange eject LED.
try a game backup.

Problem is how do I get the flashbios to work? Is there a method to boot and get the flashbios to work...kind of like how on duoX2 GS dual bank where you just flip the toggle switch. I mean is there a way to push the buttons on the console? If it's already flashed with bios, then it's either gonna say X2 or evoX somewhere on boot up but it doesn't. Anyhow, I already contacted my supplier he's gonna give me a brand new Aladdin Xeno(what I was supposed to get). Maybe it'll be easier when it don't already have a bios flashed onto it already. I spent inordinate amount of my time on the chip. I guess it's true what I believe about xbox and ps2. Ps2 is like a closed source O.S., kind of like windows, and xbox is deeply rooted in linux. That's why it's harder for me to mod than ps2, software wise. I like ps2 because the software is straight forward....you pop in a flash cd it works. But with xbox there's too many different flashbios, bioses, dashes that flash bioses, bootdiscs, and a whole fucking assortment of modchip manufacturers. Ps2 is good in fact that there's no much selection when it comes to chips and how to flash. I.e. sometimes too much choice can be bad. IMHO.

To boot with the chip enabled you hold the power button for 2 seconds .
To boot disabled you just give the power 1 quick push.
Couldn't the supplier tell you what it came pre-flashed with?

Yeah when I hold down the power button for 2 secs, the machine makes a 'weeeee' sound like from a speaker, but I don't see a speaker on the xbox anywhere. It could be from the big inductor coils or something or electromagnet. Anyways, I know it's not coming from t.v. because it's off. Then the led flash orange/red three times along with noticable spool up of either harddrive or maybe it's sound from the dvdrom. But anyways the front led flashes with those colors in conjuction with the spool up sound...then finally stays orange. This is where I only see original MSdash with no hacked bios logo anywhere.

Btw, I tried for the heck of it to bridge the 'X' pad with 'L1' on the chip and it fragged. So, I took off the bridge. Because I read that somewhere in a diagram. It said bridge 'X' pad for some versions of xbox. Hmmm. Now I'm quitting for sure.

no, i haven't asked my supplier what bios was preflashed with. I just want a Aladdin Xeno.
