I have a TSOP flashed Xbox that has a 40GB drive in it that I salvaged from some old office computer and I'm not sure how much life it has left in it, so I tried hooking up this cheap Chinese PATA SSD I had from another project and I'm not having any luck with it. I used the 16GB SSD and a 2.5 to 3.5 connector, both of which I can confirm as working in a computer, and the Xbox boots to the "Loading IND-BIOS" screen, spins up the disc in the drive and then eventually goes to flashing red/green lights without doing anything else.

I can plug the 40GB drive back in and everything works normal again. I've tried AID and Hexen, neither of which will load with the drive connected but both will boot with a regular HDD. I also tried the jumper settings on the SSD for both cable select and master, nothing changes.

Any ideas?

Wow, I remember making a thread about using a SSD in an Xbox awhile back. So it's possible I assume. i figured it would be but I just wasn't sure who would be brave enough to try it. Is your SSD PATA (IDE)?

Yes, it is a PATA drive. It has a 44 pin connector since it's a 2.5" drive and I have an adapter to plug it into the Xbox.

Still at a stand still with it as it wont do anything further than what I wrote in the original post.
