It's completely subjective. Examine the pros and cons and make a decision by yourself.

i'd say harddrive definately, better bang for your buck, fully re-writable so you can delete whenever you want, no scratched discs, no need to swap disks or keep them organized, no dvd's to buy

And I would say a DVD burner, as you can use it for many things outside of Xbox modding.
This is my point. You'll get arguments from both camps. You are aware of the pros and cons of each already...so just make the decision yourself. |

Even a bigger hard drive has its limits to how many games you can have on it. I mean a 120 gig drive will hold alot of games dont get me wrong, and is a sweet mod for a xbox, but a burner IMO would be the smart buy, cuz you can use it for stuff other than the xbox. I just like the fact that if my hd in my xbox ever took a shit that i would have a solid backup of a game. I had a friend lose a harddrive and along with it his 50 games on it. Depends what you want to do with your xbox. If its just games like me then i can still put a couple games that i am playing on the drive until i finish them. And load up a few more when im done, other than that i have a good dvd to play in the meantime. Choose wisely!!

ya that's true, you could use it for more things then the xbox, which takes some of that cost away i guess. but my box has pretty much made my dvd player obselete now that it's connected to my pc, so the only VCD's or DVD's i'd imagine i'd want to burn would be for the car.
i would say both if you got the dollars, if you are just looking for a good initial setup i would have to say the HD is the most cost-effective. |

Now that one you could answer by looking up some info. Find out how many megs/minute a DVD Bruner writes, then find out what a 100/10 base T Lan connection transfer rate is. My vote, FTP all the way and keep your original files stored on your PC. |

Personally, I would choose the hdd, because you wouldn't have to haul a bunch of dvds to Sam's birthday party. He'd be like, "Norbert, why the hell are you hauling all those dvds to my birthday party?" I'm getting ahead of myself. Plus, games of the hdd load faster. But, you will NEED extra cooling if you choose the hard drive.
