I have VERY recently purchased a faulty XBOX 360 off of eBay to save me so £/$s over the christmas period ( just simply HAD to get a 360 at some point ^^) and I'm just curious to know what "version" or "build" it is. The only things that I am currently sure off at the moment (since i haven't received the PSU through the post yet) is that it's NOT a newer one- it runs on a 203 Watt PSU as far as I'm aware. Is there a serial number or a software characterisitc that is unique to certain versions? And if so- what are they? blink.gif

Does it have an HDMI socket on the back, if not its a Xenon.

If it does have an HDMI its either a Zephyr or a Falcon.

Looking at the manufacturer date should help devise which one of the two it is.

Is there a site that lists what you might have if you have your information (manufactuer date)?

I'm just curious as to what mine is.

Sorry to continue, but there was also a way to tell your dvd drive just by looking at it, is this still available, or not?

Cheers!

That should be a falcon you have there.

The website you refer to I believe is this one.

http://www.360drives.com/list

With regards to the drive you have, the two likeliest is either a Benq, or Liteon.

The tray image does not work as the trays are identical

I found this useful video guide on you tube though on how to find out using other means.

Thanks.

Falcon with Benq. Great, now I can wait for Jaspers, pick up one and maybe mod this one.

Thanks

There is only one reliable method to determine which model you have and its simply a matter of looking on the back of the console.

I've drawn up this diagram now that the Jasper has been identified.

Enjoy. smile.gif

Isn't one reliable method to determine whether you have pre-Falcon, Falcon or Jasper console by simply looking at what kind of power supply the console has? This information can even be seen on the side of the box.

203W = Pre-Falcon
175W = Falcon
150W = Jasper

No, that is a totally unreliable method.

203w power supplies work with 175/150w machines. 175w power supplies work with 150w machines. This method of 'keying' the sockets and plugs allows MS to bundle old power supplies with new revisions of console.

You could just as easily find a 203w power supply bundled with a Jasper.

or you could just look above the power connector on the console itself and it labels the amperage....12.1a indicates jasper and 14.2 indicates falcon

True, but that method could also be prone to error or tampering. It also wouldn't help people who are looking at picking up just a mainboard sans-case.

The power socket+HDMI Yes/No method is in no way ambiguous.

I just bot my pro from wal-mart last night. Its manufacture date is 10/15/2008. but according to the power rail chart it is a zephyr? Is that even possible? It has HDMI, 60gb hdd, 203 watt power supply, says 16.4a on the 12v rail and looks to me like a first gen xbox360. am i crazy or what? thanks smile.gif

thanks man - that is very handy to keep around

the only ambiguous part is whether it can be understood by most noobs so it might be clear with language rather than the mini equations - "this socket with hdmi is this version, this same socket without hdmi is something else"

Yeah I did have a more explainatory version mocked up but decided it was too cluttered and would only lead to more confusion for people who's first language isn't English.
