When ever I use my xbox (at ANY time) it get's extremely hot. It started out at about 90 degrees F and now, 20 minutes later, is at 116.5 F. Yesterday, when playing halo 2, it reached 165 F. After a little while of playing, it will freeze and make this loud churning sound, like it's trying to spin a disc and someone is holding the disc (or something like that)

Any ideas why? Could it be the power cord? And I will be installing a a fan or two soon.

oh and the Mobo is at 98 F and the HDD is at 86.

Reopen your console and make sure your fan's plug is securly fastened to the motherboard. It happened to me when I chipped my first box, and had to "Shoo-Goo" it to stay on because I had bent the pins in such a way, that what ever I tried there was no contact with the pins.

Thats not unusual. Is your box in a cabinet or the fan is really close to a wall and is obstructing the air flow?

its probably the dvd drivs problem, if you have a cut dvd drive you might want to push the top magnet down a little, so the disk can be closer to the laser.......

--if your CPU is overheating your xbox will shut down by it self..........

make sure your fan is in and working, and make sure that the xbox has good airflow around it. if its suckign in hot air, then temps will go up pretty quick

ohh and by the way those are normall temperatures for the CPU if your thermal monitor is right on the cpu or the heat sink.....they normally function between 90-120F... depending on how long the usage is...........

yes, but it sucks the air in from the sides. so if theres hot air around teh sides (what would happen if the xbox is in a confined space), then its HOT air that will be going through the xbox.
the clooing in an xbox relies on COOL air comign in the box, not hot air

yes, but if it gets that hot, it has probably already done damage to the cpu

Well, my xbox is above a vent, blowing out hot air, so that might be it. About the dvd, noway, it does it when using a game of the HDD. The fan works, as in X3 config live I can change the speed and notice it increase/decrease.

There is a foot of space between the wall and my box, it's sitting on an end table (above the hot air vent.) I will try moving it onto the fire place thingy, (no fire going) away from the end table to see if it gets any better.

If none of this works, and when i get back on sunday, I will be installing a fan or two.

I installed a fan, works fine, always under 120 F, and i moved it before, and that also worked. I'l just have to remember if hot air is coming out, move, or turn on the fan.

well hot air comeing out isnt bad. its only if teh cpu gets really hot. and you cant tell that by feeling how hot the air is that coming out the back of the box
