Reading the Textbook.pdf, I know that you can't use the Connectivity Kit PCB to get a 78 drive into Mode B. You have to use SLAX.

But, can you use the Connectivity Kit PCB to simply power the drive when booting with SLAX??

If you can, what do the MODE and EJECT LEDs need to be set at? RED or GREEN?

It seems that lately, I can't boot up ANY Hitachi into ModeB without having to drag over a 360 unit to power it.

I hope I am just using the Connectivity Kit PCB wrong.

seeing as you have to reboot the PC when using slax, you have to use an external power source. the only way to use a connectivity kit is if you have 2 PC's next to each other, then you want the status light to be red.

Ahhhhhh So a reboot wouldn't allow the Drive to maintain it's MODE B status??

I did not know that...

Seems to me that this would really limit the value of the Connectivity Kit.. If it will only work on Sammy drives, it's not as useful as I would have thought... sad.gif

was was useful before the 78 arrived as it works on older hitachi's aswell as samsung (and benq). the mode b button is only useful for the older hitachi's of course.

when you press the reset button on the PC it cuts off power to all devices, so the drive looses its power. if it didnt do this, then it would only be a half ass reset

I have no idea what computer(s) you have access to, but every single machine I've used with a hard reset option keeps power to all drives. This is how I deal with v78s and v79s. If you're losing power when you hit the reset button there's something else wrong.

Yes, you're right - the reset button *is* a half-ass reset since the devices never power cycle! This is why I advise others to always power down, count to 5 and power up again if they are doing a full reboot.

What about a software reboot?? I assume that would maintain the ModeB status, no??

As I said before, hitting the reset button on your PC will do the job.

Anything you decide to do is fine, as long as you don't power cycle the drive.
