ok let my cousin borrow my xbox for a week and he fried the mod chip, not sure how but it tries 3 times and shuts down, I am currently borrowing my friends xbox also a 1.4 with a x2.6lite and can boot using his hdd and chip(my hdd attached with his chip will play disks but just hangs at the splash screen), and i can use the hdd from my chipped xbox on my ind5003 flashed ver 1.0 xbox.

so what would be the best solution to fix this? should i go about flashing the on-board Windbond tsop chip w/ raincoat and removing the chip wires? or is there a better solution? ( oh an would i have to solder the flash write points still as it has the chip installed? i would assume yes but you all know what assumptions lead to ....
..... thats right, tickle me Frank Stallone! jester.gif )

Thank you in advance for any help

His modchip can't be used to flash your TSOP, but it can help you get on your way. What I would suggest, while you have usage of the chip, is to make sure your xbox has a clean set of M$dash C drive files (latest dash 5960). Then, make sure the HD in your xbox is locked. If not, lock it now. Then download a game save exploit, and FTP that to your xbox. Remove the modchip, and softmod your xbox. When this is done, you are ready to flash your TSOP with raincoat.

Alternatively, you may be able to use Hexen to install a softmod while the chip is still installed, power off, then remove the chip and boot the softmod, however I am no expert on Hexen, so I don't know how effective it will be at installing a softmod while a chip is in use. If it will work, this will be the easiest method.

Since there are multiple consoles in play here, I'd like to add that the hard drive needs to be locked with the EEPROM of the console that it will end up in (ie: you can't lock your hard drive in your friend's Xbox and then use it in your Xbox without updating your friend's EEPROM to your own). From what I can gather, you seem to be able to boot your original console along with your friend's modchip and your friend's hard drive, but not with your own hard drive? I suspect that his bios is looking for a dashboard in a different path than what you originally had on your own hard drive. Do what xboxmods2977 suggested and boot Hexen with your own hard drive attached and use it to install a softmod, and make sure that the hard drive is locked (I've never used Hexen before so I don't know if hard drive locking is included; if not, then use ConfigMagic). After that, you'll need to boot with the modchip uninstalled or disabled in order to flash the TSOP, and yes, you'll need to bridge the TSOP write points.

Sure, if you already have your EEPROM, then you can use XboxHDM to softmod your 10gb hard drive, but it's unlikely that using Hexen on your 250gb hard drive will result in any data loss. You can also use Hexen on your 10gb hard drive if it's currently unlocked or if it's locked to your Xbox's EEPROM.
