Just picked myself up a copy of windows media center for my 360!
Installing the software to connect the two as I type.

Oh, and I haven't been on in a long time so hi all.

P.S. Should I get a new computer or just parts for my current one

Buy parts, and anyhow, I don't think you can find any thing decent with 300 bucks.

but not divx, xvid or some of the other popular formats without some tricky/lengthy transcoding/re-encoding shenanigans. Am I right?

I think you can get it on it's own from some places.

Alternatively I already had a Logitech Cordless Desktop S510 which comes with a radio remote, and it works just great with MCE. I just didn't install the crappy Logitech media software, and it automatically loads MCE instead when you press the media button. The mouse is crap though, that's gone in the bin.
