People have been saying how it is very loud. I noticed my 360 isnt very loud when it's on the dashboard or playing games that don't require a dvd to run. It seems to only be the dvd drive that is really loud. I am hoping this is what people are 'complaining' about and it's not my dvd drive that is messed up. Can anyone confirm this? My computer dvd drive doesnt even seem to be that bad.

Thanks,
Hoowahman

Wrong forum, but yes, it is the DVD drive. Mine is perfectly silent even when playing DVDs or CDs, but is loud when I play games because it has to spin faster I presume.

Heh just turn up the volume then no one will complain. If your drive stops working send it back, but if its fine then probably best to keep it, can you place the X360 some were else were the noise wont be so obvious?

My 12000 BTU Air conditioner is on Par with the 360 noise wise. You just gotta crank up the volume when playing to drown it out.

Different developers appear to set the drive speed at differently as some games are more noisy than others. Original xbox games run extremely quiet. I don't know when they don't use variable speeds, ramp up to 12x during load sections but run the game at 6x the rest of the time.

word - turn up that sound system and your noise problems will be solved

if you are playing with tv audio, the xbox dvd drive noise should be a second priority - buy a sound system
