I have 3 original 8gb drives that were replaced w/ larger HD's. I was wanting to format them w/ FAT32 to utilize in a pc, the pc bios recognises the drive & it's size, but when I booted & attempted to format, it gave a msg, no drives available. Is there a certain way to format?

You've got to delete the fatx partitions & create fat32 partitions before you can format.

No...you just need to unlock the drives, which can only be done with the EEPROM from the xbox they came out of.

I failed to mention that I got the "no drives available" msg when I tried to get into the FDISK proggy.

I would assume that the drives are locked since they are original xbox drives. So is they are locked, would I need to unlock them first b4 FDISK'ing and formatting?

thx for the replies!

***edit*** 2 of the HD's were loaded w/ a slayers disk, and the 3rd HD is still untouched. I may be trying to format the one that was untouched. Would the 2 that were loaded w/ slayers be locked or unlocked?

thx

Like we said....they need to be unlocked first, but you must have the xbox or a copy of the EEPROM from the xbox they came out of.

You can find many unlock tutorials all over the place. After that, I'd recommend using the latest version of PartitionMagic for all your hard drive needs (except for locking/unlocking/disabling hard drives for xbox). I use 8.0, it works well, MUCH better than the windows hard drive tool.
