Av Port Replacement On Non-hdmi Xbox 360 Options

Hello,

I am undergoing the task of replacing a broken AV port on my Xbox 360.

I have access to an Xbox 360 that, while FUBAR repair-wise, has a good AV port. That said I would like to do the following:

De-solder broken AV port from my Xbox 360

De-solder working AV port from other Xbox 360

Solder working AV port into my Xbox 360

I understand that I need a heat gun for this as well as a soldering iron and potentially a de-soldering pump (solder sucker). All of these tools are being sourced.

Has anyone performed this fix? Any tips for me? They would be much appreciated. If people are interested I will document my journey in fixing this as documentation seems sparse on the subject.

You don't want to use a heat gun. It will warp your board. You would want a
preheater tio preheat the board then desolder the av port.

just get a pro to change your port it will only cost about the same as the tools its not as easy as it sounds

In case you decide to go thru with the replace by yourself, remember to use flux on the solder points and apply some fresh solder on them to help the old solder points to melt easier and faster.

Preheater? Those are more expensive than the Xbox itself...

I guess I could look on craigslist for a "pro" but how do you know who to trust and who not to trust? :/

Any specific brand? Or just whatever I find at Home Depot?

I have a hakko 808 desoldering gun that i have used to do this and it makes the process easier but it is still not simple. I haven't tried it with a heat gun but I would guess with no experience you would do more harm than good.

Heat the mobo from the underside till the av port starts to literally fall off and gently prise with a small pointy tool.
