I ran in to a problem recently with the rewind function in MednafenX NES. This is the 6th xbox I have moded and first one that isn't working like the others.

Basicly the rewind doesn't work. It doesn't give me that Rewind is Enabled text on my screen nor does the rewind funcion work. I normaly map the keys Emu button 15 ( B ) to Turn On/Off Rewind and Emu button 28 ( left trigger ) to Rewind.

I have tryed MednafenX NES versions 8 and 7, both same problem.

The xbox is moded with Softmod 5.01 and all other emus are working perfectly.

Any ideas would help alot and I thank everyone for the support.

Are you "absolutley" sure you are using the latest version? Are you deleting previous ini files?

dead sure i started out with version 8. it was a fresh install, fresh mod, new xbox.. the only reason i tryed version 7 is because thats the one i have alwayes used and i just ftped over the whole deal with 7 the same way i have done on 5 other xboxes and it worked.. i started off with version 8 because it was a new setup so i figured i would use the newest emu, it didn't work so i tryed what has always worked(version 7). Both give me the same results of no rewind.

It's possible that the problematic XBox's temporary partitions (X, Y, and Z drives) are full or corrupt. If you have a way to format those partitions, I'd try doing that. (Just be careful.)

Yes, be sure to backup those partitions before formatting.
I once formatted those without doing so and lost all my saved games. (well I was a noob at that time) rolleyes.gif

The partitions you're thinking about are the T: and U: drives. Those store all your save-game information. The X, Y, and Z drives are all purely temporary. No commercial XBox game will store permanent data there and no homebrew should attempt to do so either because commercial titles regularly delete everything on the X, Y, and Z drives for their own purposes - because that's the purpose of those partitions - temporary storage. If the problem is related to the temporary drives, it wouldn't be because they're full - it's because they've become corrupt. I've had this happen to my development box a couple of times over the years. I forget what utility I used to format them - but they're out there somewhere.

I used auto installer deluxe 4.01 to back up the x, y, z drives then formated them with the same program. It said everything went successful but the rewind will still not enable.

Try copying some files to each of the X,Y, and Z partitions to verify that they're actually usable.

In the sprit of things I FTPed over a full copy of mednafenx nes to each drive X, Y, Z and it took them successfuly. Each drive started off after a format at 786,300,928 bytes and after the copy each drive finished at 778,600,488 bytes.

Are there any files that anyone would like to see or any other type of questions that might help us find out what is going on?

thank you everyone for helping out

After re-reading your original post, I noticed that you said that the text stating rewind is enabled/disabled is not appearing. That means that the key mapping you think is the one to use actually isn't. You should manually configure the mapping for rewind and toggle rewind. General instructions for performing remappings are in the FAQs.

It's working now. We found what the problem was and how it differed from the rest of the Xboxes I had configured. Here is a run down:

Normaly in the configuration/controller configuration/controller 1/Change Emulator Definitions I would put emu button 15 ( b ) to Turn On/Off Rewind and emu button 29 (left trigger) to Rewind.
This process normaly was all I needed to do and the rewind and enable/disable worked as it should.

Now this time what what happond is the above process AND I needed to Change Joypad Mappings/Change Game Mappings; Emu15(Turn On/Off Rewind) to B+Nothing and Emu28(Rewind) LTrigger+Nothing

I am not sure why this time it was nessacary to change both when in the past changing the emulator definitions it would auto change the joypad mappings.

Now I know for next time if it ever happons again,

Thank you all very much for all the help, I am glad that together we got this figured out.
