no different then a ps1 port on the DC. a cleaned up version of the game. for what its worth i think it looks great for a port of a ps2 game (when you consider thats its base development) cant wait till this year is over and hopefully no more ports from the last generation

... and the textures( no bump mapping so far), lighting, and everything ive seen on those screens dont scream next gen...

question for you... when looking at a static screenshot what does normal mapping (bumpmapping) look like?

I'll give you a clue, until the lit object or the light moves.. it looks like part of the texture.

The demo's you've all seen that make you think "ooh bumpmapping" are all overstated "look its shiney" demo's. Anyone can make an engine that leaves every surface shiney and metalic... it takes real skill to make leather look like leather (using normal mapping) or to render gunmetal in the DULL (NOTE - NOT ALL GUNS ARE SHINY) form it ACTUALLY WAS.

So in short - those screens DO have high res textures, they DO have advanced lighting (its just not overstated and shiny) and they DO have normal mapping.

When it moves and you seen the subtlety you'll realise that its easy to use next gen effects but difficult to not look shiny and plastic...

Is that why racing games seem to look so damn good? It's easy to make a "wax coat" on the cars but it's damn hard to make dull paint?

I don't understand the little intricasies of graphical effects, but I certianly love it when stuff looks like it SUPPOSED to (clothing looks like cloth... etc.) Those planes in World Airforce look amazing not because they are shiny and mapped, but because they look real.

that IS why racing games look good... cars when they are clean shine and glint. These things are the easiest element of lighting to achieve. To render say the look of Suede (not seen it succeed yet) requires a FAR more complex lighting system than most games implement.

Another way of putting it... ever wondered why car racing games RARELY do crash damage? Its because they struggle to make it look good.

i was waiting for m hael to start replying. makes complete sense to what he says and ive seen it before. the next gen will not only give dev teams the effects they need but it will be interesting to see how they use these effects to give us the photo realistic look we expect from the next gen.

Bah. im not impressed at all, with this game or with the tony hawk game (so far they are the only 2 next gen games i've seen that have not impressed me very much), i mean i knew this was going to happen, the same thing happened with the dc (getting alot of ps1 ports with miner gfx updates), and now it looks like it's going to happen for awhile again on xbox 360 mad.gif , but so far from the games i've seen it's only been the 2 from navasoft that look bad, i mean this game and tony hawks look like it's running on an xbox and not a 360.

It's shamefull imo and its just something that you would expect from lazy developers, i've always had alot of respect for Navasoft and the TH series, but like i've already said the stuff that they have been showing on the 360 does not look like it belongs there.

Btw this is all just my opinion, and m_hael or ye guys can flame away all ye want, but im pretty damn sure im not the only one who feels this way, on a next gen system i want to see next gen gfx, not last gen gfx.

not all games are exclusive oh smart one.

both games you fuggin mentioned are cross platform titles. If you think all cross platform titles are going to start from ground zero for the 360 and take advantage of it, you live in a dream world.

and quit fuggin typing "ye"

its YOU

I agree with zero, in terms of graphics, those two titles, Tony Hawk and Gun, aren't what is expected out of the next generation, and all of my friends who have seen the screenshots released so far, agree with me too. I guess you can blame it to those other incredible looking games, like Elder Scrolls, or Gears of War. Well thats what you get out of cross platform games, and these two from NeverSoft being worst case scenarios since they're actually cross "generational" games. Lets face it most typical gamers are easily swayed by pretty visuals over gameplay first, and thats what leaves that first, lasting impression on them, about the game and system too.
The truth is, because of all the hype that both Sony and M$ have been spewing out, moreso with Sony (you gotta love Kutaragi's statements), and the promises that failed to be delivered last time out (Toy Story-level graphics with Ps2, remember?), gamers are really expecting way too much with this coming generation of systems, and yes, I understand were never gonna see "Killzone2 demo"-type graphics on the new systems.
So back to the topic, lets just put our faith with Neversoft, and leave the developers to their work, although a little criticism from the gamers themselves wouldn't hurt and should be welcome, both games aren't finished yet, and who knows by the time they release we could be in for a few surprises. beerchug.gif
