Hey, i just bought a 616t and i can't seem to put on the dvd faceplate..(the one that has the XBOX on it). so how do you do it? also, i heard that if you put on the faceplate, it doesn't look right and something should be put between them, is that right? if so how big should the piece be?

also, how do you take OFF a faceplate? thanks.

The face plate will not snap on the 616T drive. You must use double sided tape (mounting tape) to attach it. The drive will actually sit about 1/4 of a inche from being flush from the front of the Xbox. Just use enough mounting tape so that the face plate lines up with the front of the Xbox and no one will notice the difference.

There are 2 snaps on the bottom of of the tray that u pop away and then slide the faceplate up to remove it. As for attaching it to the new drive the way i did it and many others do is take a piece of double sided tack board or a credit card and slide it between the tray and the opening of the drive in the xbox and put a very small drop of superglue on each side of the faceplate and hold it in place for about a minute or 2. The tackboard will help align the faceplate also make sure u dont' use too much glue or it will run and stick to the tackboard.

You need to cut one of the screw posts from the DVD carrier and one of the screw posts from the top half of the case (it's the one in the top-right when viewed from the back)

I use a grinder to cut down the faceplate and the tabs at each end of the drive carrier to get a perfect fit,

first thing i do is grind down the two tabs at the bottom of the face plate so that just a little bit of each tab is left ( enough so it will hold the faceplate on the drive carrier without having to use glue or double sided tape) since the faceplate isnt quite wide enough to slide on the front of the 616T drive, i grind off little by little the tabs at each end of the front of the drive carrier until the faceplate will slide on it. When it slides down it locks into place since i didnt remove all of the locking tabs on the bottom.

I also grind down the front of the metal casing of the 616T and i also trim down the front pcb board ( it requires me to run one jumper wire though) but anyways i can get the faceplate to be very close to flush with the front of the box.
