Ok It has finnaly come time that I upgrade my hdd. I have decided to go with a seagate 200 gb. Now something I have always wondered about, (and tried to read up about), is the physical installation. Is all I have to do take out the cords of the old one and put the cords in the new one? It just sounded too easy, which made me suspicious.

also make sure your bios supports 137+ gb, and a slayers disc is quite handy for installing dash

Look on the back of the hdd. the small area that looks like a plug should go there but it isn't the power or the ide plug. It has a small plastic clip in it. That is the jumper. It should be set to cable select from factory but check the documentation that came with the hdd to make sure it is in CS location. if not remove it and install it in that location.
Now if anybody can help me because it is almost same subject. I did the hdd ugrade with 250gb maxtor and it is running great. Unfortunately I missed the part about 137+ etc...... It is softmodded and running great. I have searched tuts but not sure best way to get my space. I have been told to edit the bios ie: (If you are using a HD larger then 137gb you need a bios with LBA48 support flashed in your Xbox). Is there a way to do this on softmod because I believe flashing bios is for chip only right? Also I did the entire hdd upgrade with xboxhdm and that was about it. Thanks |

Mine was set to cable select from factor. There was a piece of paper that came with the hdd showing a diagram of the jumper and showed it was in CS standard. As long as you got it there it should be fine. I think most of them come set to CS already.

there are no "instructions" or "tutorials" on this because it is pretty easy. Its just a little plastic clip that bridges two pins. Just make it look like the diagram that will come with your hdd (if it isn't printed on the hdd itself). My HDD came in the master position, other might come in cable select. Usually, both master and cable select will work in the xbox, but cable select is suggested. You'll figure it out when you get the hdd.....its mad easy.
