Dashlaunch is handy for a number of things, such as multidisc games etc, as well as the fact that the patches it installs can stabilise RGH installations on certain motherboards, so installing it is a good idea. But if you want to boot straight into the original NXE, just edit your launch.ini so the line that begins 'Default =' has nothing after it. That way, you'll boot straight into the NXE but have all the extras that the dashlaunch startup offers.
I too had issues with getting FSD2 to show up in the NXE, as I think the tut I read was probably for v1.20, which worked very differently, but although I was an NXE lover originally, I'm actually starting to love the new skins that are available (especially xeon), so you should maybe give it a try. Just as a side note, I still prefer to ftp through xexmenu rather than FSD, but that's just me
