I just bought a xbox 360 pro package harddrive and all that stuff today so i haven't played it yet i just plug it in to see what drive i have and is a samsung what version i don't know yet should i use it now and get all the updates on live first before i switch the firmware or it doesn't matter and what version of extreme should i use xtreme4.2a or xtreme4.2b i should be getting my sata card via vt 6421l next week so i want to make sure i'm ready to flash when the time comes. I been doing a lot of reading the past coulpe of days when i knew i was going to get a 360 whats the better way geebees tut, or textbook tut planing to flash using the cdboot method

4.2a spins the disc faster and the 4.2b is more quiet.

If your date of manufacture is later than July or August 2006 it is almost guaranteed that it will be a ms28 and you will have to wait for your via sata card to flash.

Get all your updates now or update after - it makes 0 (zero) difference - if you are going to have issues you will have issues whether you updated after or before. Having said that, if done properly you will have 0 (zero) issues.

If you have the 4.2 firmware package it came with a readme - do what it says - read it. It tells you what the only difference between the a and b is.

Personally I prefer textbook's tutorial but I've never used the cd boot method.

Tristanbalde thanks for answering all my questions. I think i got everything now going with textbook tut, get all my updates now then flash with xtreme4.2a
