I have a Jasper 360 (for offline use only) that hasn't been updated to the homebrew killing dashboard.
When I try to play Borderlands without a hard drive, I'm prompted to update, but I can simply decline and it still allows me to play the game.
With a hard drive connected, I cannot play the game after declining the update, and it prompts me a second time.
I thought this could have been due to a system update that might have snuck onto the drive while it was connected to my online & updated 360. Using my hard drive connecter from diygadget, I deleted a $SystemUpdate folder, and then a $TitleUpdate folder in hopes that it would stop. After trying that, I still can't play without accepting the update. I reformatted the hard drive through NXE, and checked with xplorer360 and found no update files.
Is it just the game disc itself that presents the mandatory update if it detects an installed hard drive? Is there a way I can play games (preferably installed to hard drive for faster loads) without updating?

Have you tried Patching/changing the DISC to a different WAVE manually to the WAVE3?
If I recall the reason it asks for the update is because the disk sees your DASH being so OLD and wants to update it. I've heard people do this to offline consoles because playing a disc with the wrong WAVE will get it banned.
I can't confirm this works because I always update my system to latest Dash. Granted if you can JTAG always JTAG because it outweighs as best Offline option for gaming.
