I was given a softmodded XBOX today. I have pretty much no knowledge of the XBOX modding scene other than it exists, and you can do a crapload of cool stuff with a modded XBOX. The person that gave me the XBOX knows nothing either which is why they gave me the XBOX. I have modding experience with a PSP so they figured I'd be able to figure it out eventually. Problem is, I'm pretty much lost. This is what I know about the XBOX I have:
The dashboard is ExolutionX V+3935 and there is nothing under any of the menus for applications, etc. From the stock XBOX dashboard, in the game saves menu, it says that SID Installer and Auto-Installer Deluxe v3 are on the hard drive. This is what I want to do: 1) use my XBOX as a media center to play (ideally stream over the network if possible) mp3s and divx/xvid avi files. I'd like to be able to play hi-def x264 video files if possible. 2) Install a bigger (320GB+) HDD in the XBOX. 3) use my XBOX to run emulators for the NES, SNES, and N64 specifically. Emulators for other systems are a bonus. I really don't know where to go from here. I tried sifting through the guides, but they are just confusing me more and bringin up more questions. Can anyone point me in the direction of the guides/threads that I should be reading? I also have the Auto-Installer Deluxe v3.10 iso. I'm assuming that I can burn this to a DVD and launch it from the modded dashboard? Any suggestions for anything I can/should do outside what I've mentioned here would be greatly appreciated. As I mentioned, I have no idea what I can do with a soft modded XBOX and would like to take advantage of as much as possible. Thanks all in advance. |

First thing to do is establish an FTP connection to your box and back up the eeprom data to your PC. You first back up the eeprom using evox dash then transfer the backup folder to your PC 1. Xbox Media Centre will do all that and more, 2. With a softmod your best bet is XboxHDM, 3. Lots of emulators available from xbins. Read read and read, if you have your eeprom backed up to your PC you can recover from just about anything. Dont use AID on a softmod the wrong choice will destroy the mod. |

First off, thanks a lot for the help. I did some digging, and have done the following:

Update your dash, evox was great in its day but there are better options, XBMC makes a great dash or UnleashX plus many others,
Is the a folder called dashboard on the E partition. |
