Yeah, found all that already, but then I thought about it and remembered xbox only uses WEP protocol and said to hell with it, I'll run a 50 ft Ethernet cord under the house if need be.

It's not that the Xbox only uses WEP, it's the original Xbox wireless adapter that was WEP only. You can use a new 802.11 WPA-2 wireless adapter with the Xbox. One like this should work without too many problems.

I assume I would have to power it from a source on the xbox motherboard, controller port possibly.

Yes, that's what I'd do, wire it to one of the controller ports. You'll also need to connect the adapter network cable to an externally facing RJ45 socket, so you'll be able to configure the adapter from your PC without taking the Xbox apart. You then just put a small RJ45 link cable between the adapter socket and the existing Xbox network connection once the adapter is configured.
