 What Are Cvs Builds?, for XBMC. |

I've been trying to get up to date with XBMC for a while now from "The Usual Places" but all i see are CVS builds 1.1 and all these numbers like 2005-8-22. Honestly i really do not know what the hell all that means. I have some skins that are incompatible with the current version of XBMC that i have. For ex. One skin has a requirement for version
1.3. But i don't know how to get that because i don't know if i need CVS builds or 1.3.i don't know which one is the latest, the best, and up to date! I have XBMC build 2004-08-18, but i don't even know if thats actually good. What does all this mean? can someone explain in great detail? THANK YOU! |

You could try looking in the << XBMC FORUMS >> or on the << XBMC WEBSITE >> and read up. |

So, the current version i have: XBMC 2004-08-18, that version would represent the date of: august 8, 2004? Is that version good enough ?

"Build 1.1" is the last official revision, but people make CVS builds all the time. Any CVS build is basically considered a WIP (work in progress) since they are not official revisions. Also, the CVS builds should always include the correct skin version of the default skin (which is PMIII). The build 1.1 and skin version 1.3 are two separate revision numbers and are not directly related. As someone else mentioned the dates just indicate when that build of XBMC was compiled from the source files. And your build is now over a year old, I would recommend upgrading to a newer build.
[edit] I would also add that since you are going to be upgrading from such an old version you are best off just deleting your entire current XBMC install. Also make sure you go to the standard XBox dashboard, go to the game save menu, and then find the save for XBMC and delete it. Then load up the new build and start it up. If you don't delete the XBMC save you will very likely run into problems/bugs since you are upgrading from such an old version. This post has been edited by Thraxen: Aug 24 2005, 04:57 PM |

If it does what you want its good enough. If you want a newer version of anything then try it. You can always revert to the older version

Can't you just replace the existing XBMC(The build i have) with the newer ones without having to delete the entire folder/directory?

Yeah, just FTP the stuff over to that folder where your old build was located (must be unzipped. unrared). It will ask you if you want to overwrite files, just say "yes to all." It will be a HUGE improvement over what you have now. You'll see. |
