So I have an XBOX v1.6b, I got it nearly free in the UK and took it back home (I live in Poland) and I wanted to softmod it. After some reaserch I knew that I couldn't do the TSOP exploit or whatever it's called so I tried doing the one with ndure 3.1 and xboxhdm 1.9, but I have Asus P5Q SE motherboard with only one PATA connector so xbrowser fails to start with dreaded "Linux CD not found" error. I was about to give up but then I found this -> http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?sho...650961&st=0 and tried doing that. Did the hotswap, was able to access hard drive with ease, done everything (but I guess I screwed up something 'cause it failed), put the hard drive back into XBOX, tried booting it and after XBOX startup logo the screen turned black and light on my XBOX flashes green/red. I had the C (partition 3) backed up so I tried hot swapping again and it worked (and still works, can access the hard drive) but the partition 4 just dissapeared. I backed up the C partition and now MS Dash loads up but when I try to play any (original) game it says that my XBOX needs service and game doesn't start. Also all my saved games and music is wiped out, obviously it was on partiton 4 which is now non-existant. So, with all that, this is a "virgin" XBOX and I have no eeprom.bin and xboxhdm 1.9 doesn't work with my computer, is there any way I could recreate the partiton 4 using Windows (7 Ultimate 64bit) or is my XBOX now rather useless? Thanks in advance and I hope the experts won't yell at me for anything, I'm just looking for help..

Sorry but I think there's no way to create partitions other than with linux, you can try XboxHDM USB edition here http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=690646

I strongly recommend you to get your EEPROM first, have it as a safety net, that way you can put a new HDD in case something goes wrong. You can use EvoX or ConfigMagic to do so, there are plenty of tutorials in this forum to do so.

I decided to just build the HD from a scratch, I know that I need eeprom first, but this may be problematic to get now. I know that you can build an eeprom reader but I'm dumb at things like that and acquiring required electrical components to build it so I'd rather save that for a last resort. I just eagerly tried doing the (obsolete) bert and ernie font exploit to get EvolutionX working on my XBOX to get the eeprom but I forgot that it only works on specific XBOXes and after I tried (two of those exploits actually, bert and ernie and bert is cheating on ernie or something like that) both gave me error 21 when booting the XBOX so I'm running out of ideas. You said Linux, even modern-ish distributions like Debian or Ubuntu could do it? In that case it would be easy for me, I used to play with those operating systems in the past.

1. I was dumb with electronics but I built this breadboard eeprom reader.
2. Read the art of hdd upgrades in my signature. It has a Windows approach like xboxdumper which would rebuild partition 4 or Ubuntu/Debian with usb adapter. I personally prefer Linux. If you used Windows, just be careful not to trash your windows partition by mistake by selecting the wrong drive.
