I'm looking to pickup a projector mainly for gaming with my xbox, xbox360, movies and the occasional football game on weekends. The specs seem nice but I want to be sure that it will be capable of handling the above listed uses.

Projector

Also there is a HDMI adapter that can be purchased for watching HD programming (I think).

Your input on this matter is much appreciated

P.S. I think I can find this particular model for under $1,000

That projector will work fine for what you need. There aren't a large number of inputs, so you'll have to switch cables when going from xbox to 360 to dvd player (unless you use an xbox for movies). The HDMI adapter will just convert from HDMI to DVI (which is the projector's input). HDTV can be transfered over DVI cables as well. You'll need a set top box to be able to enjoy HD programming, so if you are going to buy one you could always look for one with DVI output so you don't have to worry about the adapter. Just make sure when you are using it, you try to set it up in a dark room. Most projectors do not look as good as televisions when there is a large amount of ambient light. A decent screen will also improve picture quality (although I have played xbox on projections onto a flat white wall).

Whats wrong with the LCD Projectors besides the screen door effect? I don't mind getting a different type if it will look better, I only have about $1400-$1500 to spend (projector only not including screen) and want to make sure it will meet my gaming and movie needs mainly

colors generally look extremly washed out next to even the cheaper dlp projector, infocus 4805, but then your limiting your self to essientially 800x600(the widescreen version, dunno it off the top of my head)

What LCD projectors have YOU seen...I'm guessing its a business type...and that projector supports 720P. Don't add mis-info to the subject.

The recient crop of LCD projectors are great. But they are higher then the price range given (Around $2K).

There is a thread over at AVS about the Projector you are talking about.

Infocus is having a clearance sale on their website for refurbished units at $899 and brand new units at $1299.

I also read through the AVS forums and some like it/some don't. But most of the information is not related to gaming its more so for casual use like movies. There are also a lot of people that like the 4805 projector even though its not true HD resolution. I'm just not sure what to do.

NEXT TO DLP, dlp simply owns it in everything besides price, a 4805 will have superior color sitting next its lcd brothern, plain and simple

Yeah, okay...keep thinking that...a Native 480p DLP, has NOTHING on the D5 LCDs. I don't think you have been reading up on it at all. I'm not trying to argue but the D5 panel LCDs are getting a lot better. They are comparible to Mid ranged DLPs (ex. being the Panasonic AE900U and the BenQ PE 7700 DLP). The Panny out preforms this mid ranged DLP, and the BenQ is a fairly nice model (except for the bulbs but that's another story).

You can't compare a 4805 to a current D5 panel PJ because its just not fair to the 4805. THAT is the facts...
