My friend has recently got a xbox 360 on february and only plays halo 2 on it. Past this week, he can't play any multiplayer backward compatible games at all. Everytime he starts up any his Halo 2 xbox live, it says, "you need to accept the update in order to play this game or you can't play" after he accepts the constant erros pops up after saying he failed to load the update. What could the problem be?

Why would someone buy a 360 and only play Halo 2 on it? You might as well save your money and just play it on a normal xbox with no problems.

Halo 2 really doesnt work the greatest with the 360 HD. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the HD.

I had that happen to me, just reconnect to live and keep trying. Luckily, I only had to retry once. If memory servers, when it failed, I ejected the game, reconnected to Live, put the game back in, and then it worked. Don't know if this'll help him, but that was my winning formula.

forgive me asking, but do you actually think this has got to do with the hard drive and how do you format it?

Yep ,it sounds like the download is corrupted. You can Format by going to the "SYSTEM" blade in the dashboard, choosing "Memory",highlight HD as storage device and press "Y" button for Options. The Format selection is there.

i had the same issue with ninja gaiden black, the update would try to install, etc but wouldn't.
i had to download the update and put it on a cd-rw and force the update that way, once that was done
it worked fine.
