Hey everyone, new to the forum and was wondering if anyone could shed some light to my situation.
Been doing xbox repairs for a while and have accumulated a few spare parts.

Last week my xbox gave me the good old RROD. TRy as I might, cant get it running again so its joining the junk pile.

Cant afford a new one at the moment so looked towards the pile of bits i have. Only system i'v got to work is a 2008 elite, but DVD drive is goosed. Tried changing the laser for a spare I had but no joy and I cant afford to buy a replacement.

So I pulled the drive from my recently deceased consol and just plugged it in so i could get some gaming. Connected to live, without any hdd and did a connection test to get the latest system updates. So now i have a console atleast, until I can buy a new one in January.

Now I've explained that here is my question(s)

I'm assuming that as long as I don't connect to live and sign in (wont be connected to the router) neither the console or my gamer tag will be banned.

My plan is to buy a slim in a couple of months and transfer my old hhd to the new console. Am I totally safe from getting my new console banned and will the gamer points i achieve while offline be transfered to my new console?

Thanks in advance for any help

I haven't read anything from your post to indicate that you would be banned so what makes you think that?

I wasn't sure if the mismatch in hardware (dvd drive isn't flashed) would would flag anything up with microsoft when I did a system update or wether any of this information would be imprinted on my HDD and transfered to my new system. I've had my gamer tag from launch and just want to air on the cautious side rather than risk losing it smile.gif

On a side note, in retrospect i probably shouldnt have bothered with the dashboard update. I had planned on J-Tagging the elite when I was done with it.
Am I right in saying that you cant J-Tag with a 2.0.1.3604 dash as the vulnerable kernal is encrypted? There is no way to downgrade either is there?

no they can not be downgraded but you really do not need to. The glitch hack works on almost all 360s and will work on all public dashes. Now since you say you are getting a new console any way I would leave it connected to live because I think that right now when you transfer the gamertag from 1 360 to the other you will lose any points that have not been sync with Live.

By all means connect the new console to live and retrieve your gamertag but I strongly suggest you also create a new live id sign in with this new id and get the option media update.
Yes once glitched you can mangle a OMU but this is a lot easier.

The OMU is signed with microsoft's strongest encryption and they don't preload it on a new machine (something about them licensing the technology and paying for every copy I understand)

Also you might want to check the drive in your new machine b4 letting it attach and take updates it may be easier to dump now than once you get the lastest dash.

On my new slim I created a gamertag with RGH and SLIM in it just to see if their system was bright enough to let me choose that tag and retreive the OMU and some other content... it did biggrin.gif

Just my $0.02 worth your milage may vary the preceeding opinions are forward looking statements and not a guarantee of sucess etc... wink.gif

Had a quick look at the Glitch Mod, and it seems withing my technical ability so I'll give that a go once I get a new xbox.

As for xbox live, If I was to log in to live with a modified console how long before a band would be enforced? Is it instantaneous or does it vary?

What I was considering was nearer the time pulling the dvd drive from the xbox and booting it with the original broken drive. Log in with a new account to test the waters for a while n make sure the console wouldn't get banned then, once I'm sure its ok, logging in with my my own tag to sync with live before transferring the hdd to the new xbox.

Any views?
