I have seen quite a few topics about tvs, and with all the great replies I thought I might as well ask my question that I have been wondering a while. My xbox is hooked up to my 55" tv with hd cables. To be honest most games look like shit. I see that some games are 480p, and a few are 720p, and maybe 2 are 1080i. I have tested a game from each res right after another...and well it still seems not that special. I have never really quite grasp what that stuff meant, but that 1080i is the best...is most cases I think. I'm actually really cluesless. So my question is how much better are the graphics and hd quailty going to be on the 360. My guess is just becuase the specs are so much better, but I could be wrong. Also my tv naritve res is 1080i and 720p...maybe. When I watch espn in hd it says 1080i 16:9.

I was mainly worried because when I played halo 2 with the hd settings turned on it looked like crap, for sure the worst looking game. I know none of the 360 games will be like that becuase thats what its made for...but still I always have to be a worry wort. rolleyes.gif Please don't flame on me, I just really would like to know and be 100 percent sure that I know whats going on. One last thing....what progressive mean.

I have to bow out from answering this, please dont take offense. I already have a headache, and reading your post made it worse, and responding would put me in Migraine mode.

I will say this..

for you say Halo 2 is the worst looking game...

"User error"

something with your tv or xbox is not working, or you havent set them up correctly

you obviously know very little about xbox games.

You say... "I see that some games are 480p"

I believe there are only TWO titles that are 480i only, meaning the other 4 to 500 are ALL 480p.

"The Thing" is one of them, I dont know the other.

are you even fugging using the HD pack and the Component connection?

migraine setting in

grr.gif

someone please step in, I can't take it.

Haha sorry about the bad headache! And I did know that almost all the games are 480p, I just typed "some" for that word popped into my head. Sorry about that. And yes I thought it might be user error, but halo looked better without the hd settings turned on in the ms dash. After you sayin that I changed my xbox dash to avaluanch and changed the hd settings there. It made a great difference. So that is taken care of. Sibera or something like that was one of the 1080i games, not the second one though. I have searched around alot and I do know a little about xbox games. I used to have a link showing almost ever xbox game and it said if it was 480p, 720p, or 1080i. It also said widesceen or not...

I was hoping to get a little info on the difference between a xbox game in 720p and a xbox 360 game in 720p(is there something more than specs). Also why do most games look blown up and somewhat distored on my tv. I think its becuase I'm talking most about sports games and those are always 480p, execpt for one of the baseball games. Just with everyone saying the games wont look as good on a smaller hd tv than a bigger tv, because I would disagree with that statment with some xbox games. Once again those are probably the 480p games. I think I might be understanding kinda...

The games looking better on a bigger hd tv...becuase of more vertical lines could be shown. More actually room to show them I guess. And the more lines the more detial and better graphics? Am I right in thinking that?

Here I am, but, like Deftech, I can't answer this question since it's not really a question. Your stuff isn't set up right, end of story. You are getting in over your head with this hd sutff without knowing what itt's all about. I will not tell you what progressive scan is because it's not really describable from my point of view. I know a decent amount of my a/v stuff and progressive scan is just something you know at a certain point in your 'research'.
And you are incorrect in thinking that a smaller hdtv will make things look worse than on a bigger hdtv. On a smaller hdtv, you get less lines, but a finer pixel rate and a more concentrated area to look at.
I'm sorry, you just have to do your research on things this simple. There are some things forums are meant for, but answering the basics of the basics and guessing the answers to your vague problems aren't within my abilities.
Your games look bad in 480p? It's not your vertical line count. You would know this if you either had experience in what that is and what the prs and cons are, or if you did your research and learnt a little more about it yourself with some effort involved.
Your games look squished in 480p because 480p is not a widescreen resolution. It's a 4:3 resolution. You can solve this by simply knowing a bit about your a/v setup and your TV's display settings and setting it to a 4:3 curtain (black/greay side bars) resolution to view your games without the 'stretchiness'.

Please, go on google and put some effort into answering your own problems. Don't go over your head. If you don't know a drop about hdtv, which you don't, learn about it. If you don't want to learn about simple things like aspect ratio matching (watch a 16:9 program in 16:9 for god's sake), progressive versus interlaced, and hd cables, then stick with standard definition.

Headache....... must.. stop... typing.

Well I'll try to help.

First, make sure you are using the HD pack and that you are using Green, Blue and
Red component cables for video.

Then, on the TV, make sure that you have these plugged into the PR, PB, Y (red,
blue, green) inputs on the TV. Double check to make sure you do not have them plugged
into the CR, CB, Y inputs (if your TV even has them)

Go into the Official Xbox dash (not your modded dash such as Avalaunch). Go to the
video settings and turn on 480p, 1080i and if you think your TV does it 720p.
Also change your screen settings to widescreen.

Pop in a copy of MX Unleashed or MX v ATV Unleashed both which do 1080i. The
difference in clarity and sharpness should be ridiculously obvious.

As far as widescreen goes, your TV wil have an aspect adjustment (usually on the
remote) that will let you adjust it for a best fit.

Also pop in a 720p game with your 720p setting turned on. If it works then your TV
does 720p... if all you get is a scrambled picture then your TV doesn't support this
format.

Hope that helps.

You could have saved yourself a lot of time if you would have just said search on google. You kinda pulled a lil john. It seemed like you were going to start to tell me something, but you never got around to it. Well with lil john its rapping...but you get the point. However thanks for givin my some good key words to help start my searching! So actually you did tell me some stuff...it was a total loss. tongue.gif

And thanks MetalZoic for the quick tips...I was posting this when you posted your help. A friend of mine that lives across the street has mx vx atv and looks way better. I also checked the cables and they are fine. My tv supports everything execpt 1080p. I started hitting display everytime I play a game to check and make sure its the right res and mode.
