hi

im a linux noob but ive been playinbg around with xdsl for about 2 weeks and i can seem to get any messengers(i.e amsn, pidgin) to work..

ive looked all over the web i see ppl have them installed.... but noone expilns how to install them..

ive tryed using atp-get install but it says theres no package
i also did the apt-get update thinking that might help..but it didnt
ive tryed downloading it right from the sourceforge site too
mydsl/ doesnt have amsn or pidgin.. uhh.gif
on mydsl i got gaim kinda working it downloads and installs but when i try and connect it says "our protcol isnt supported) blink.gif
i did how ever got pidgin to install once cant remeber how..but all the text in pidgin showed up as squares. so i removed it.

so how do i get amsn or pidgin working in xdsl...i want to be able to chat on msn/windows live messenger and i figure these are the prgrms to use..

thx
rob

Sadly I have tried this in the past. running either koepte or pidgin. Neithr work to my knowledge.

It seems most chat clients have changed there settings now here you cannot talk on older software anymore. the only thing I can suggest to do in xdsl is go to e-buddy. Google and and you can find it. it is aim, msn, and yahoo among others that run in your browser. I recall running it in the past.

One more useful tip, under mydsl you can download the packagemanager synaptic. you can install many more programs then what mydsl has. They may have more IM clients in there to use. Haven't used it in a long time so i don't know. hope this helps.

many apps in xdsl and well dsl itself are dated. gaim is so old and so many im clients have changed how they work it probably does not work anymore. you can use the web based one called meebo.
