I think I'll take the money that would be spent on the laser cutting and put it towards a dremel. I'm gonna need it anyways cuz I'm gonna try and window my hard drive. makes me a little nervous but the risk is what makes things fun. Thanks for the compliments.

That design would still be very impressive even if you had used a dremel!. But you only used a swiss army knife!, Jesus!! . Hats off to you sir!.

I've never seen this done!, is it possible?. I thought hard drives were way too fragile to risk getting dust or anything in them by even taking the cover off??.

In simplest terms, get a spec of dust on the platters and it's done for.
All the DIY articles I've seen on it have you work in a bathroom with the warm water running enough to make the dust settle but not have an extreme amount of moisture in the air (to the point where you can see it). Although I've read of 1 guy successfully doing this in his garage by using a can of air to clean out a shoe box, very quickly covering the exposed platters with seran wrap, and placing it in the box while he worked.

wow!, just looked at that tut for the hd window! . I'd never seen that done before. Dont think i'd be brave enough to try it myself. Can you buy hds with windows?, that would look excellent in an xbox along with the dvd window. If you do this you gotta post the pics. Good luck!

It's not that the price of laser cutting neccessarily. It's more the feel of accomplishment in doing it on your own. Plus, that'd be $20 towards a dremel when I actually go and get one. I'll be getting it soon enough cuz I've got 3 stock xbox drives that I'm gonna be practicing windows on.

Sabbath, as far as I know, the only HDD that comes windowed from the factory is a Western Digital Raptor X. It's SATA though so we cant use it on Xboxes. Plus, it's $350 for a 150GB hard drive...

Just a heads up man, target has a pretty cool multi speed (1-9 and max) with stand, extender cord thingy, and a bunch of cut off bits and accesories for 24.99 + tax. So go pick one of those up before you pay to have someone laser cut your plexi for you.
