Hello All, My brother gave me an xbox phat for free since he was trying to extract keys from the lite-on 16d2s DVD and he plugged the power in upside down ohmy.gif he let the magic smoke out of the drive and now it does not work. He also does not have the keys either ohmy.gif Reading the message board I saw where a replacement mobo for the drive maybe one option to revive the DVD drive, another option mentioned was replacing the MOSFET 1117S18TR as sold by vgcrepairs (hope it is ok to mention them) On their webpage they have a photo of a portion of the drive mobo with corresponding voltages on certain places. I used a voltmeter and came up with 3 places that the voltages did not match what was shown, they were: U7 - lead 2 was 0.17V instead of 1.8v
R207 - the right side has 3.3v as per specs but left side only has 0.76v and C03 only has 0.77v instead of the required 3.3v . All this brings me to the question: will replacing just the U7 chip correct the other voltage problems or do I need the entire motherboard replaced. If the latter is required what needs to be swapped out so I can then get the drive keys from the fried DVD drive? Thanks for taking the time to read and answer my question.

If you have the DVD key extracted from that drive, the best is to replace the whole controller board and inject the DVD key to the new board.

He said he didn't have the keys.
