Hi Guys i've recently got myself (my third since launch) another xbox, and thanks to a friend have gotten hold of an xecuter2.6ce chip, which i've fitted myself with no problems. the chip has the "cromwell" bios installed. other than the chip being fitted, the xbox is standard (10GB hdd etc). trouble is, i'm now at a loss at what to do. the chip (when enabled) shows a green screen with various options such as boot from FTP / disk / hdd etc. i've downloaded the Slayer Evox26 Auto Installer cd and burnt the ISO to disk. the xbox keeps spitting it out with no progress made. i've also connected the 'box to my router, which works seeing as the xbox is receiving the IP that i have reserved for it. when trying to connect via FlashFXP laptop>xbox, i keep getting the cannot connect message. i've configured zone alarm to allow access and the laptop can ping the xbox successfully, but won't allow me to connect via FTP. i'm entering the IP address into the URL / Server section as 192.168.1.4 port 21 and set as anonymous, but nothing works. where am i going wrong? sorry for so many questions and waffle but i'd really like to open up the xbox and allow it to do more than play games. thanks in advance. The Cromwell BIOS is -only- for booting Linux. It doesn't support Xbox software or most of the Xbox functions, hence you are having problems. You will want to get one of the latest Xecuter 2 bioses from xbins and flash that onto your chip (don't remember what size the 2.6CE's banks are, so you might have to get an older, smaller version of the X2). Once you flash the X2 BIOS and set your chip to boot from it, you will be able to install Xbox software and such.
btw, don't use Slayers. By configuring your Xbox manually you learn a whole lot about how it works, and that knowledge can save you lots of trouble down the road. Plus, almost all of the software on Slayers is ancient -- a lot of it was compiled prior to the advent of the wheel. Well, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but it's still really, really old and you're better off downloading the latest versions from Xbins. |

Hi Vayate
thanks for the prompt reply. the ce chip is the 1MB version, so it must have two banks of 512. i've already downloaded a shedfull of stuff from xbins already including a evox M8 bios, which (for my ver1.6 'box) doesn't want to load. the dvd drive chucks the disk out and requests another!! i'll have another mess around with it tonight to see if anything comes to fruition!! thanks again. i would use the 5035v1.6 bios (512k) (or use a bios of your choice, just make sure its compatible with
the chip) , then you need to flash your chip with the bios ,heres a guide, personally i would use slayers if your not sure what to do, i did when i started about 5 months ago then just upgraded everything after. As for you dvd drive try different makes of cd/dvd as its hit and miss with different drives, like mine will play anything (a thompson drive) whereas my freinds is picky about what it will read (phillips drive) p.s in flashfxp dont set it as anonymous use the name and password XBOX This post has been edited by dpbmt: Jun 22 2006, 10:24 AM |

the dvd drive chucks the disk out and requests another!! If your using eurasia flash disc it wants 2 dvds/cds, one for the actual eurasia iso and the other having the bios file and some files. (some files being: raincoat.cfg, bios.txt, dummy50mb [dummy50mb is just a dummy file to fill up space on the disc]) |

Hi Guys
thanks for the replies....much appreciated **update** i've got my 'box sorted now, i managed to flash the bios with the 5035 version then used the AID3.0 disk to load XBMC, from here i can configure all the IP settings either via crossover cable (lappy to xbox) or through my router. as mentioned in one of the other tutorials / posts, i've achieved this by using FlashFXP:- URL/Server : 192.168.1.4 name/password xbox and also using FTP built into XP Pro: open internet browser and enter ftp://xbox:xbox@192.168.1.4 both instances now allow me to modify xbox C: & E: drive contents (retail drive). thanks again for your help & pointers.
