I was trying to repair my Xbox 360 which originally had the E-74 error. I bought it off someone from Craigslist and when I popped it open it looked like he tried to do the old paste pennies wrapped in electrical tape on the 4 chips on the bottom of the motherboard trick.

Seeing that he already did this and did not solve the E74 error I removed the heat sinks and placed some arctic silver paste on the gpu chip and that other chip right under the other heat sink. I then went and took the pennies off that he pasted on and put arctic silver on the 4 chips then pasted rubber erasers on them. Then I put back on the X clamps (probably a stupid move) and reassembled the Xbox 360.

Now I am having troubles powering on the Xbox 360 and have to take out the power cord and plug it back in like 4 times before it will even start. Then when it does start it flashes 4 redlights and then I hear the fan start running really fast then it just shuts off. The AV cable is plugged in and I have tried about 3 different AV cables on it and none has solved the problem.

What can I do to fix this? Thank you guys for your help! =D

E74 is the RAM on the GPU itself breaking down, and the only fix for that is to replace the GPU with a new one.

all the things you have done will never ever fix the RROD issue in a million years.

you are wastig your time.

reball is only solution to fix RROD, anything else is a band aid fix and will not last.

Thanks for your reply! Do you know what is making it do the 4 red lights flash, running loud, and then shutting off? I may have to fix this issue first then reball it.
