I agree I think M$ will do something about firmware hack, but will not ban you from live, there is way to much money to be made.

Apparently you didn't have live back with xbox 1?

They couldn't really allow people to play on Live could they? Cheating would be rife as I said.

No i didnt use xbox 1 on live, but there was also not a market place for people to spend money at, and also the code has not been broken as far as security. only a trick with removine media flags, try to change something on any xbox360 back-up and it wont boot. I do believe they will stop the frimware hack, but I think they wont ban you from live, just have another auto update hat checks disc, same way they got kiosk disk to quit playing.

Yea but there was no fw hack when running the kiosk. huh.gif Either way, it will happen eventually & people will find a way around the fix as well IMO.

I never used Live on the Xbox 1, but didn't they just ban your console and NOT your user account ?

What would happen if someone went to a friends with his Profile on a memory card and an original copy of a game to play. Do you think its fair for MS to ban him if he didn't know that his friends Xbox was modded?

Its more likely that MS will just ban the Console from accessing the service.

If you walk into your friends house and he has a meth lab in the basement you don't know about, if a bust comes through you are getting the cuffs as well.

QUOTE(geebee @ Jun 6 2006, 09:20 PM) *

how about they just stop backups running. Same result.

The advantage to backups is the originals don't get scratched. But for games is a bit pointless. Having them on the Harddrive would be good (can anyone say fast loading times).

Soon there will be a real modchip and it will be open to abuse and people will get their xbox 360's baned.

They will eventually ban people who go on live with a hacked firmware or if a modchip does come out. They will be banned for being idiots and not developing some kind of switching system. The hacked firmware can be done with a switch for real games on live and backups when not on live. If a modchip comes out i'm sure it will have a switch just like the original xbox modchips.

I finally updated aswell seeing as its been over 48 hours now. If they still ban my 360 then I'll just get a Core.

Thats the way it goes I suppose, but when you think about it MS are taking an even greater hit when I buy ANOTHER of their subsidised consoles to play the same copies of games as the first console, they lose a console and gain no game sales by banning my first one. unsure.gif

The reason for 1 to 1 backups isn't because of signed files.

Have anyone actually read the UELA of Xbox live?

Does it specificaly say that ANY kind of modification on the console will allow them to ban you?
Are we sure it does not just say that mounting chips/tampering on the motherboard/hardware is the "illegal" thing.

As you probably know, they can't just ban you if you are not violating a specific statement in the EULA.

But i guess they got it all covered wink.gif

But if no one have read it, it might be an idea to check it out.

With the firmware hack to enable backups to be played, the files that reside on the disc cannot be modified else it breaks the signiture, and would render the game unbootable, now as long as things stay this way, I see no reason why MS would spend a lot of effort and time in banning people from Live.

Thoughts on this would be welcome.
The only thing that the signature protects is the executable. Assuming the game does no integrity checks on its data files, you would be free to hack and modify those and play with them on Live using the firmware hack until MS does something about it. I'm pretty sure you can do so right now with Halo 2, though Bungie has their own measures in place to try and detect modified map files since they've had to deal with this problem for a while now.

I think it's any modification of any type of software is bannable.
