hi guys, sorry for asking a help on the first post. i think i have f****d up my 360. last night after seeing the 12v stock fan mod i did it and got the both fans connected to 12v source. now both fans are running at maximum speed . i have checked it. but the problem is as soon as i turn on my 360 and as it boots up it starts showing two red lights section 1 and 3,which i think means that its overheating.i touched cpu and gpu heatsinks which were quite cool.how can 360m heat up just in 10 seconds after starting?is it a bad solder which is causing the fan to not run properly or is it just temperature sensor malfuntioning which is causing the error code to show up?by the way for 12v power source i used one of three points below main power connector.please someone help. uhh.gif

I just did this mod and wow.. it works awesome. The CPU heatsink doesn't even get hot anymore.. it gets lukewarm! One question though, is a 26awg wire good enough for the 12v? Thanks

Looks like this mod is a bad idea now, due to the new wave of MS Live bans. Personally, I have my system apart and 2 large fans directly attached to the GPU and CPU heatsinks, running quietly.

I really don't think this fan mod can get you banned from XBL, even if they can detect it. You're not breaking the Live TOS, you're just voiding your warranty.

I'd like to make a suggestion. It seems that the best way to stop bricking your 360 is to use Fuse wire to make bridging connections (form it into a small loop like a horseshoe) and an inline fuse holder with an appropriately rated fuse. This will stop shorts and pulling to much current from the system and for what it would cost, would save you a lot of money.

I wish I could post some pictures of it, but...What I did to complete the 12V mod was what a good percentage of you are doing. I spliced both the Red, and Brown wires and wrapped them together. Then, I took some random wire I had lying around and tied it to the end of the Red and Brown, then taped the connection with electric tape.

Then, I spliced the single wire of the DVD drive, and connected it to the extension wire, adding more tape to both connections. Plugging it in showed a small increase to the noise of the system, perhaps cutting the fan grill helped with that. But anyways, the fan speed is dramatically increased and my system is "rarely" (and I am able to use this word very lightly) warm. The base of the motherboard was my main concern, and it's almost never warm.

To clarify for anyone who doesn't understand my interpretation of the word, warm...Warm means 120 degrees, warm in my usage after the 12V mod, means 100 degrees.

The figures, of course, are all estimated, and not entirely accurate. But for the small addition of "some" background noise, the drop in temperature has been HUGE.

#EDIT# For anyone that needs help doing this mod...http://youtube.com/watch?v=zTxcYDKGCYw I used this video for a reference to the wires that I spliced.

However, the video is slightly outdated, pertaining to the Falcon version of 360s (I believe). And the reference of the wires that are connected to the fan in the video is wrong, you need to splice both the Red, and the Brown...Not only the Red (like the video shows).

Good luck!

Hi guys

My xbox is running the 12V mod, but it's just too damn loud and like other have said will reduced fan life. Question is what can I do to make the fans run at say 9V being a little quieter and not sounding like a jet?

9v regulator smile.gif my fans runs @9v. and that is perfect cooling vs noise.

what do you mean the single wire? I have 2 sets of wires going to my dvd drive.. one is the sata cable..
and the other cable has about 10 wires going into the dvd drive (and im sure thats the one you cut) just out of those 10 wires you can just cut any one of them or what?

Thanks
