QUOTE(Rubix42 @ Mar 9 2006, 01:42 PM) *

My path is different, and gave me very little trouble.

From the top of the cliff run forward into the trench.

Once in the trench, turn right and follow the trench to the end. You'll see an american get wasted every time you play this part (at least I did)

At the end of the trench take out between 2 and 5 germans, and move forward and down into the bunker.

Work your way through the bunker, and when leaving, toss a smoke grenade out and a little to the left. Make a break for the rally point. About halfway there, you wil drop in a trench, have your machine gun ready and lay waste to those germans.

Then work your way through town.

Good Luck!

I did the exact same. Only, before going into the trench I'd take out the 4 Germans that come through the trench path on the left, then I'd take out the two in the anti aircraft gun.

Guy gets wasted on mine too. Mortared or something.

Caen was the hardest by far, those 4 missions within that campaign were brutal on my ego. That damn church was easy on hardened, but for some reason on veteran, I was just useless.

yeah, well for some reason i beat that mission, and did the "save and quit" and when i started up next time, it didnt save... that mission took me a long time and was a pain in the ass, so i havent really picked it up again since then.

see I've always been afraid of that happening, so I start the next mission, then do a save and quit...

it's a bit unnerving that it doesn't save until you exit the game... if the power were to go out (which it does A LOT in NH because of all the trees) toward the end of a marathon session I would be completely screwed.

My GF was playing Final Fantasy VIII once, on the last boss she had been fighting the same battle for 2 and a half hours straight... power went out, it was the 3rd time she'd fought the last boss and was finally doing good, it's a good thing my projector screen is made of vinyl fabric because that PS2 controller went FLYING laugh.gif the next day when the power was back I popped the disc in my computer and found a codec for PS2 video files and just played the ending video for her... wink.gif

I know I'd be something pissed if I just finished something big in COD and the power went out... 360 controllers are a bit more expensive then PS2 controllers too.

holy crap Silo is hard... I just wanted to post because I've literally spent the last 3 days on just this mission blink.gif

clearing the field in the beginning was cake, then it took a night or so to take building A... then I didn't progress past that all weekend until last night.

I was going back and forth between trying to take building F (the HQ) and trying to take building B (the barn) and failing miserably at both, usually because as soon as I'd try and run in, smoke grenade or not I'd get mowed down buy germans in building E.

If anyone is getting stuck here too, this is what I did to clear the buildings:

Building E:
-Run out of front door of the farm house like your going towards building F, mow down any germans that happen to be in the yard and go all the way forward and to the right (into a little shed behind a pile of wood) Inside there is a set of stairs. From in there you have a clear view into the 1st floor of building E, stay under cover and pop out and snipe everyone you can see on the first floor (about 5 guys), then from there you can also see the MG42 on the 2nd floor of building F so snipe him too.
-Next go back into the farm house and out the back door towards where you started the level. Just before you get to the street wait a few seconds for 2 of your buddies to catch up, then head left down the street towards building E and run straight across, with the 1st floor taken care of and the MG42 gunner gone (temporarily). Make sure to stay close to building E so the guys on the 2nd floor can't get you as your run up, if you do it fast enough no one from buildings c or d will notice. you'll enter a door on the back side of building e right on it's corner, there's a german at the top of the stairs directly in front of you when you go in so run in shooting, then head in and to the right and hide along the wall. wait here for a minute as your buddies filter in (slowly), you might have a german or two run in so take care of them if they do. Then head up stairs and there are 2 germans by the back window, take car of them and building E is yours.

Building D:
-after taking care of the guys up stairs of building E poke out the window to see a new MG42 and a gunner or two setup on the ground outside of building F, snipe them, and again snipe the MG42 in the 2nd floor window. head downstairs and into the room facing building F, snipe anyone on the 2nd floor of building F, and machine gun down the germans who are sneaking out the back and towards your position. once it's clear (it will only stay clear for a minute) run out that door and to the right and run straight into building D. hide in the small lip provided by the door in the outside corner, wait here and your buddies will filter in (eventually) a german or two might pop in the room from elsewhere in the house so take them out if they do. Once a good number of your buddies have come in. clear out anyone your buddies may have left on the first floor and be weary of the windows facing building C. keep your gun trained on the 2nd floor and take out anyone who pops up. Run straight up the stairs and to the right room and take out the german there, then run straight across the hall and make sure that room is clear, from there wait by the door and take out anyone who pops in. building D is clear.

Building C:
the room in the back of building D has an MG42, even though it's on the back if you point it all the way to the right you can easily hit the front side of building C, spray the first floor of building C for a good 30 seconds to make sure there is nothing left of it, then run down stairs and across the street. once you're on the porch make sure no one is left on the first floor, and stay clear of the door as the guys on the 2nd floor can hit you from there. jump in through one of the windows and wait for your buddies to filter in. Pop out in front of the stair case and take out the baddies at the top of the stairs, when the top of the stairs gets quiet, run up and to the right to check and clear that room, then run across to the other upstairs room. building C is clear.

Building B:
run out the front of building C and jump over the porch wall to your left then left again into the alley between buildings B and C, have your machine gun ready and take out anyone there, run up and hide to the left of the opening of building B, a german or two might pop out. Wait for your buddies to filter in and take out any germans who you see come into the entry way. You can either wait for your guys to clear out the first floor, or you can be a bit more pro active and take them out yourself, theres 3 or 4 on the first floor, they usually hide behind some crates and barrels towards the back, it's hard to see because they're in a very dark area. There is also a guy on the 2nd floor towards the top of the stairs. once all of them are cleat you can head up to the 2nd floor and there is one more guy waiting in the back corner on the building C side. Go half way up the stairs and ready a grenade pop out the top and throw it to the back corner by the window and he should run out where you can see and shoot him (you don't even need to go past the stairs to get him). Building B is clear.

Building F:
Now I had all the other building clear and I could take on building F without worry of getting shot at from other buildings. leaving the side entrance of the building b I went out wide to the right around building D, using a brick wall, and the burning car for cover I slowly took out anyone outside the building, once the outside area was clear and the window gunners were gone I moved up the the building and hid along the outside wall towards the far corner, popping in the door ways to shoot whoever I could see, once the first floor was taken care of move around to the front and keep our gun trained on the stairs. Pop in and take out the germans at the top of the stairs, once you stop seeing them coming, run up and to the right, if you were patient enough the only german left will be the MG42 gunner, who will be too busy holding the MG42 to notice you, take him out with ease and now all the buildings are clear.

Good to know I wasnt the only one who found the 6 buildings almost impossible. It took me 2 solid days to get past them, I had to walk away many times. I wish I had your little guide last week when I played it, lol.

Looking back, Hill 400 and The Rhine were not bad at all on Veteran, not for me. The Silo Mission and the Battle For Caen were by far, the most difficult for me. The Caen missions were just brutal! grr.gif

I hope someone uses your advice for the Silo, it might save some tylenol laugh.gif

I'm not even finished with Silo yet, I'm currently at a save point about half way through the sniper part at the end, I was making lots of stupid mistakes at that point so I just went to bed, I'll probably finish it tomorrow when I have some time.

Yeah the Caen missions were brutal, Tiger in particular. It's hard to say which one is harder, Silo or Tiger, not having played hill 400 or Crossing the Rine yet, I think Caen is the hardest mission set so far... Silo and Tiger might be tied as the hardest individual levels.

I think Silo has some hard spots but isn't too hard on a whole, while Tiger was just plan on hard the whole way through. At least Tiger had more checkpoints... knowing what I know now I think I'd be able to breeze through silo if I were to play it again, but I'd probably still have trouble if I played through Tiger again.

Looking forward to finishing this game so I can move on to something else, it's damn fun though. biggrin.gif

Yeah, Tiger would be a pain if I played it 100 more times. `

I thought defending Hill 400 was easier on veteran, but its got to be because on Hardened, I had no idea what I was doing up there, lol. On veteran, atleast I knew where to go and when. The Rhine had some pinch points in alleys but I never found it to be difficult on either setting really.

Im kinda sad CoD 2 is over with, but I have Recon to keep me warm at nights smile.gif

To anyone playing Recon currently, go pop in CoD 2 and tell me if you dont get dizzy, lol. I resumed CoD inside a house and almost puked from the speed difference. Took me a few minutes to become acclamated to it.

yeah, beat COD last night, it was well worth the time. that trench board and silo were definitely the two hardest, i must've died 100x trying every direction before i finally just smoked and crawled along the barbed wire on the left. and i silo, it took me hours just to clear a single building and get a checkpoint. good stuff...

I finally finished Silo last night, I ended up having to do the sniper part 3 times because after finishing it I fell off the ladder... TWICE dry.gif

stupid ladder... I can take out armies of german forces with mortars but I die instantly when faced with a few planks of wood...
