Team-Matrix releases official video of the upcoming 'Freedom' 1175 board replacement!
Posted by GaryOPA | September 2 11:02 EST | News Category: Xbox360

Finally, backups running on the Liteon 1175 drive!

After the leaked -and confirmed to be real- POC video showing back-ups running on the 1175 drive.
Team-Matrix has decided to make it 'official' and released a new video showing the upcoming 'Freedom'.

Xbox-Scene

Just a couple of days have passed since a POC video showing the Liteon 1175 X360 drive playing backups was leaked into the web, and now Team-Matrix has decided to make it official.

That's right, the team has announced the upcoming 'Freedom' 1175 Board Replacement.

Before we begin, some notes regarding the 16D5S drives and why we made the choices that we made :

First of all, the SPI eeprom is locked just like in the old drives and the WP pad is connected to GND, thus making it impossible to erase/rewrite.

Why the old Geremia/kamikaze style method is not feasible in the 16D5S drives :

The area were the WP wire can be cut is less than 1mm in length and the WP bonding wire runs parallel to the DO bonding wire with around 0.1mm of separation between them.

Cutting the WP wire without damaging the DO wire is doable when the chip is decapped and under a good microscope but we can't see any way where someone can do this without some serious lab instruments.

For this reasons we have developed a replacement PCB, similar to our previous Freedom replacement PCB but with some additional hardware needed to cope with the enhanced crypto requirements in the 16D5S firmware.

This PCB will replace the original drive PCB and work on any unmodded Xbox360 (including the 4GB V2 coronas and those with dashboard 15572+ ).

The firmware is finished and stable and has all the features you would expect :

stealth, XGD3, all titles work (basically everything iXtreme 3.0 has) plus some additional features that we are testing and considering for inclusion in the final release.
They also decided to release a 'new' -and also official- video of it:
The new video which we quickly threw together first shows a 16D5S drive connected to a corona motherboard (check the marking in the IC and the tracks going to the SATA connector to see that it really is a 16D5S drive).

An original game is already inside (drive is upside down to show the PCB) and it is booted to show that the drive is married to the Xbox motherboard.

The drive is then swapped with another one with the Matrix replacement PCB already installed, and a few backups are booted to show it working on the same motherboard.

Additional videos will be released shortly, but for the moment being our time is better spent in development than in movie making ;-).

This one was mainly done due to the leaked video, to show our drive working without all the programming/debugging hardware that is normally connected to the drives during the development stage. So, there you go.
Stay tuned as things are about to get more exciting in the upcoming months!

If this MT has SPI blocked and can't be unlocked, what about replacing the MT?

Just like the begining of 16D4S drives, there were 2 optins, pcb replacemnet and MT replacement done by pro modders.

This woudl be more cheap for end users also.

Looking good. Will be interesting to see how the key is retrieved from the existing drive.

Thanks for sharing.
Was looking there, but hard to find among many beginners topics.

A qoute from Geremia

If a speculation is permitted, i think this time MS did a good job with drives (fact), you could decap, dump, decrypt, you could get into vendormode, but this time dvdkey is not so easy reachable.
But even if you have dvdkey, what replacement pcb? where the hell do you find an mtk chip with such crypto hw? in the 12euros pc dvdrom? I can't believe they did the same cheap-ass mistake again, an mt1339 is not enought this time.

If i'll see such solution, i'll be glad to clap hands.

So MT replacements chips are a dream now. Waiting for more infos like on 16D4S reverse.

My thoughts exactly, I wonder who will be the first to supply the replacement MT chips, let us know, we will grab
30+ immediately

Nice that they are willing to provide a whole PCB for the noob & try-hard installers, but please dont forget the pros. If they aren't announced in the next week or so then PM me (any other pro's that just want the chips) and we can get a co-op buy going (I know other installers locally that will order also)

Thanx again & keep up the good work... I guess I was wrong about the little red-box (that's got to be a first ;-)

This SPI is "unlocked" and not need KAMIKAZE method
