so been away for a small time and i know that there has been an update to the dash
was wondering if I should bother reflashing nand to freeboot since it has been updated or is there an update for xbr coming??

Either case I see there has not been a xbr update but wasnt sure if freeboot is the new way to go or just the 1st to update.

If there is any at all benifit to changing to freeboot (games needing new update to run etc?)

Is Xbr still in dev etc does all the xexloaders etc work with freeboot without modifcation?

freeboot is very simple to built your own image... takes 2 minutes... this also results in a much cleaner firmware rather than the hack job builds of xbr...

Zephyr issues will not go away!

Instead, use smc from xell image released from the free60 project.

It seems to fail a lot less.

just to double check I know i read that the recommended 7371 isnt mandatory

does it work well with lower explotables as I do not wish to flash from xbr back orig then update to 7371 then redump etc etc as stated i have read it somewhere, cant seem to find it now

with the zepher it wont matter as it has yet to be dumped

thanks for replies

Check this out if you want to do it the easy way

I still highly recomend you to build your own image using FreeBoot's package.

You may extract the smc from this package once you patch. It's the one I mention that is more stable.

Good Luck.

dont mind doing it the hard way like anything else the 1st time is the worst then usally is nothing after.

Im just trying to read and or ask what I can before moving forward.

Mind at ease makes less mistakes.

I havent touched my 360 in a month so wasnt sure if the update was even needed as far as gaming is concered. didnt want to pop in a game and it ask for an update and need to go though all this to play it
especially if i rent it

As far as I know, you can't use dash-launch to boot directly into freestyle with freeboot, so I'll stick with my patched XBR3 for now.

100 percent false, auto launch works just fine because it's built in. Straight from the readme 6th one down:
III. New Features
=================

- updated to kernel 2.0.9199

- now supports all consoles and flashing solutions (ikari)

- removed memory protections

Code can be executed and modified anywhere in the range from 0x80000000
to 0x9FFFFFFF. This can be used to create game trainers and will allow
for porting of emulators, which rely on dynamic compilation.
[2 different patches 1 with this: xbox1 emu doesn't, 1 without xbox1 emu does work]

- encrypted DevKit XEXes are now working

- includes dash launch patch

- LIVE/PIRS/GOD content fully working

- internal security breach reports deactivated (Redline99)

- easier image generation process (ikari)

- ibuild can now also generate single flash XeLL and original images (ikari)

Wow, I totally missed that bullet point when I read the readme. Thanks, I'll have to update to freeBOOT then.

unless you NEED the 9199 kernel for something, have a built in mem-unit, or want to contribute to LIVE-rotting, you dont really NEED freeboot, yet. eventually, newer games will require the 9199 kernel though. and if anyone eventually takes advantage of the "removed memory limitations", you will need it too...

though i suspect if/when an updated xbr comes along, they will have those patches as well...

(not trashing the release!!! major props ikari!!!)

I been holding out my XBR3 Jasper for a newer version. But since I have little patience I went ahead and updated to Freeboot. Seems to work just as well as XBR but with the newer kernel.

Maybe IF a new XBR comes out I will go back to it but I am not holding my breath.
