so i have been thinking, if a person lost their key it would be possible to guess it. granted it would take a hell of alot of time and energy but in theory a key could be guessed.

so...

Keys are 32 characters long

can consist of abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789 (36 different characters)

so if i did my math right (32 x 36) there are 1152 possible combinations

and you could rule out alot of these as AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA or whatever is not a valid key (as far as i can tell)

i am almost sure i did that math right but it has been a while so can anyone confirm this?

There is a lot more possibilities than that. If I'm not mistaken there is 36 exponent 32 combinations (not sure if I told that right, I mean 36*36 32 times)

thats what i thought, well it is still very possible to guess a key, you would just need a hell of alot of time.

better luck next time >.<

If you use the most powerful supper computer in the world it would still take many years to brute force the proper drive key. Then you will still have to add a few thousand years to flash and test each key until you find the right one.

Moving on.....

16 values (0-f), 32 positions, that's 16^32 possible keys, or 3.4x10^38 keys. If you could test a billion per second it would only take you 10^22 years to check all keys. That's about 770 billion times the age of the universe.

However, look on the bright side. On average, it will only take you half that long. Let us know when you've finished the first one........ smile.gif
