I'm getting error #7 when I try to boot up my modded xbox with a 120 GB HD. It was working just fine until yeasterday. It's running an old dash, Evolution X V+3935. When I replaced the modded HD with my original, it boots up just fine, so something is up with the modded HD. Maybe a file is corrupt or the HD is dead, I'm not sure. I tried hooking it up as a slave to my PC using the IDE, but windows just hangs. When I did the same thing with the original Xbox drive hooking it up to my PC as a slave, windows boots, and the drive can be seen in the device manager, but don't see a drive volume showing up, only the C drive shows up which is installed on the master HD hooked to the PC. This doesn't do me any good even if I could see the drive volume on this original xbox HD, as I need to get into the modded 120 GB hard drive.
How can I access my HD to see what is causing it to give error #7? Is it possible to boot up my working original Xbox HD, (I have full dash menu options even with the original HD) and then while still powering the working original HD, hook up the potentially broken 120 GB HD to the IDE on the XBOX while said 120 GB HD is being powered by connection to my PC? Would that enable me to at least use xboxplorer and get to the contents of the drive? to at least attempt to clear the catche? This post has been edited by wargod: Nov 1 2012, 04:22 AM |

Error 7 is described as a HDD Timeout.
The evidence suggests, particularly the fact you can't get your PC to access it either, that it is a fault or failure of the 120GB HDD itself. The typical cause of this is apparently a loose IDE cable or some other connection failure but from what you've said that doesn't seem likely. So assuming it is connected correctly and the jumper connectors have not been changed I'd listen to what the HDD is doing. If it is making unusual noises or isn't spinning and/or obviously trying to load something at boot in the Xbox then there is a pretty good chance the HDD is dead. There's not much you can do about that. However I'd wait for some more expert advice before giving up on it completely. This post has been edited by fallenangle: Nov 1 2012, 04:39 AM |

Ok, well I got the entire contents backed up onto another external HD before this issue happened. If I purchase a new HD what is the easiest way to transfer the data onto it? I need a guide to do the transfer which includes EEPROM and locking/unlocking. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
