A few years back, I soft-modded my son's XBOX using the Agent Under Fire hack.

Recently, it has stopped loading Unleash or original XBox game discs and an error message appears saying the system needs service. However, unlike in the past when we had issues with the system, no error code is provided. A few times the system will just boot to a black screen with the rings on the front of the box going to a light amber, but more often it goes to the error message with the rings alternating between red and green.

Tried burning a Slayers disc on a whim but it didn't boot with that either.

Any thoughts on what the most likely culprit may be? Is it likely something tied to the internal clock?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
The All Purpose Nothing

coud be error 12 on a 1.0 xbox because dvd pcb is faulty.
could be a dead hard disk,, error 7..
could be low power on 12v line on the xbox. so you may want to check the 12v and 5v output of the psu.

sorry about the vagueness. its just without the numbers it could be anything.

i would however test the psu 1st. see if it gives out enough power you can adjust a pot on it to increase it if its to low.
if your lucky that will get you running long enough to confirm it.

Ended up being a bad hard drive. Replaced it with a 160GB Seagate and we are now back in business. Thanks for the help!
