M$ Boot!?! Options

I have a second hand xbox. I believe it has a X2.6L chip installed. It has been working for over a year now but last night it began booting the M$ screen everytime I started it. It wasn't dropped or anything like that. I've checked all the dip switches and they all seem fine. All the leds light up too, even the one on the chip itself. I do not believe that any of the connections could've become loose that quickly from heating/cooling; never had a problem with it before. I have no idea what the problem is.

how is the chip installed? if its soldered you should go over all the joints again, making sure you have good contact

if its solderless take the chip out and reinstall it

in either case, pay special attention to the d0 point, thats probably where your problem is

On bootup, does it say M$ or Xecuter (depending on bios) under the X?
could be that the other dashboard .xbe files may have been accidentally renamed making the boot priority going to the M$ dashboard.

Are you still able to play backup discs?

If the xbox is working like a non-modded box, check the connections as stated above

I had the box apart and all the connections seemed tight. Not sure if its solderless or not because the wires go under the board. It says MS when it boots up and backups are not playable. It says the disk is unplayable or whatever it says.

well take the board out and check the wires more closely, ill be d0 has come loose at some point

Ok, I have the main board removed, and the long grey wire to the d0 point (not sure?)had electrical tape over top. When i removed it the wire came along with it. What do I do now, solder it back? Keep in mind I have never soldered anything before in my life. (Well, when I was 12 I soldered another 7.2 battery to a remote control car. Man it went fast. It caught on fire though. )

well thats certainly your problem

if youve enevr soldered i would practice a bit before tackling d0, if you have a friend or relative who can do ask them, otherwise get some old PC board and practice

Ok, I tried it once, there are two points with solder left on them, so grey must have been on one of those. I tried using the pic here to find out which one it was.

Anyways the box started and stopped 3 times then the eject button flashed green and red. That can't be good. Anyways I'm going to try the other point now.

Thanks so much lordvader129, just got it working again. I found a pic with all the connections on the bottom which showed me where the d0 point really was. Thanks again.
