In process of buying 360 for buddy to modify. Thinking of getting Microsoft refurb, or something from Target or Wal-Mart. Where would you go, and which model would you buy? Is there any external way to tell which DVD drive you will get? Is it better to buy an older, refurbished model. Is there any type of DVD drive that can't be modified?

Currently I have a modified Hitachi and am waiting on Lt 2.0 for it.

What is my best option given these facts for an easy modification? What would you do?

If you want easy then don't buy a new Slim. You probably want an older model like a Jasper. They are very reliable. As for drives, they can all be modified (except for some newer ones on the Slim). I'm not sure exactly on the date but anything that was manufactured in mid 2009 and on should be a Jasper (only referring to phat models).

Thanks for the swift response. I was thinking that. Any issue with Microsoft refurbished phat boys? Think I am going to go that route. I would rather not get a Hitachi (what I have), as 2.0 isnt out for them yet...any other suggestions.. Thanks in advance.

If you can buy a refurb with a specified chipset then I see no problems but it it doesn't say then you could end up with the older less desirable ones.
