Hey guys I needed a weekend project so I decided to mod my Netgear router. It is a wgr614 v5 (Very OLD). Its pretty basic and easy to do the stuff i did. Not sure what the after effects will be (in terms of performance) but well see.
o and it looks cool too.
To Do
-----------
Cut Window X
Sand Edges X
Paint covers black (glossy) (oem color was white fyi) X
Mount Mesh screen (NOT FLUSH mounted) X
Thermal paste on three main chips X
Copper Pennies X
And last but not least add a Freakin power switch because I ABSOLUTELY HATE PLUGGING the wire out every night. Im sure most of youhave xperienced not having a router power button expeically with the older model routers. I DO HOWEVER NEED YOUR HELP ON THE POWER IM STUCK.

IF anyone can swer my question: Okay as you can see on the power switch Ive presoldered the Gnd Pos and Pos.

Under the board is a 12v, GND, and another pin idk what it is. I took a picture of that too. How can I leave the wire plugged in and use my switch to turn it on/off. For example just ilke the newer models they come with switches andI want to add my own.

Two connections will be Negative One will be positive.

You'll have to cut the trace to the + or negative then solder a swtich into the circuit. Or you culd cut the power cable and add a switch like that.

So on the switch, I need to Negatives and one positve. Ok then I solder the Red from the swich to the trace under the board. What do I do with the two negatives. And also as you can see Im doing the method where you use the cirucuit no the power cable. Sorry Im new to electronic wiring Im 15 yo.

No. Cut the trace, One side goes to one connection on the switch, the other side goes to the other connection on the switch.

CODE
------------ / -------------     < Cut trace

-------  [Insert Switch]      ---------    solder either end of the trace to the switch

Legend

CODE
--------               Positive Trace
/                        Cut
[Insert Switch]    Switch

If you dont understand this still....I could literaly do it, take a picture and upload it/show you.

To be honest, If you cant do this, I dont think you should be messing around with electronics at this moment in time.

I gotcha now. Two traces are cut and they go to the switch.
