I have a Widows XP Media Center Edition 2004 PC. I need to update or upgrade to Edition 2005 to contect to my Xbox 360. I mean use the media extender opiton. Any help, any help at all would be everything I ever wanted. I've googled it, Searched Mircosoft Website, Windows updated it. I don't know what to do.

Thanks,
CamoMouse

They are both different versions of one OS. You need to buy the new version or call out your computer manufactor and see if they will give you the new one.

Are you sure you need to upgrade the OS, or just do all the software updates that MS sends down? The reason I ask is this: I have a 2002 Media Center PC that I have upgraded to Service Pack 2, and I have downloaded all updates that MS notifies me of. I just hooked up my Xbox 360, went to the URL it game me for the Media Extender software and installed it. I even had some weird error report after the Installation, but when I fired up my Xbox 360, it could see my PC, and my PC could see my Xbox. The software set up shares and everything.

If you haven't tried it yet, update to Service Pack 2 of Windows XP and see if that takes care of it for you. If yours doesn't work, then I have to scratch my head and figure out why mine worked.

I decided to go on eBay and found the HP Update disk I've needed. HP stops offering it back in Feb of 2005. If anyone has a HP Media Center and needs to update to 2005 I will help you out. HP said it's not illegal to distribute the software since it only benefits HP customers. If you need a copy, I will upload a torrent and I can make copies and send them to you.

Like said above, there is really no reason to update your OS to MCE 2005 if you've been updating your current version of MCE.

I'm running MCE 2002 and my understanding is it's the exact same thing as MCE 2005. I can connect to my 360 just fine.

You have to go into Media Center, Settings, General to check you real version. There never was a 2002 version of Media Center. That is a glitch. You have 2005 if you can connect to your Xbox 360.

I will post when I get the software. Sometime around Jan 11. When I get it in. I will start making copies for anyone who needs one.

Okay Gentleman,
The HP Media Center 2005 Upgrade disk is in and it works great. If you have a HP media center pc running MCE 2004, you can contact me at camomouse@gmail.com, or IM at camomouse@hotmail.com, AOL TheCamoMouse. To check you version is simple. Don’t check it in the Systems Properties; it will give you incorrect information. You have to open Media Center, go to settings, go to general, go to About Media Center and it will tell you the correct version information.

Media Center--> Settings--> General--> About Media Center

Let the Xbox360 Media Extending begin.
