I think it's because of what he said about Bush. Plus, they may be talking about Kanye's attitude instead of his lyrics. His lyrics are great.

Well, let's quote a little Eminem then, shall we?

Quote, "We As Americans (Encore Bonus CD, hmm.. first song(?))"
"I don't rap for dead presidents. I'd rather see the president dead. It's never been said but I set precidents."

Quote "Rain Man (Encore)"
"When am I gonna come to my good senses? Probably the day Bush comes to my defenses."

Is it sad I did that without listening to the songs or looking up lyrics?

Then we have Mosh (actually the entire song)...
"Stomp, push, shove, mush, Fuck Bush, until they bring our troops home"

I mean, I could go on, too.
Did his popularity decline or anything because he said this? Hell, for We As Americans he was investigated by the Secret Service (not too much though), and even on the unscensored CD "dead" is reversed in the song.

For me with Kanye, I do think has has some good songs. That does not make him the best rapper alive.

That is like saying a baseball player hitting .188 hits a game winning homerun, so he is now the best player in the game. No, he had a good hit, but he is not the best hitter. Major league average is probably around .275-.280. This example happened last night by the way, Tigers are going to the World Series.

Kanye has some good songs and he knows how to get people to talk about him. Good for him. That is called marketing not rapping. Kanye also has some bad songs. Go have a listen to KRS-one or The Roots and some of the less main-stream rappers and rethink your Kanye theory.

I didn't mean literally every celeberity. There are some that voice their opinions. That song is amazing by the way.

Everyone has bad songs. Or songs that certain people just can't get to like. Its not just that he has some good songs. He is saying something, Compared to 98% of MC's in the music industry who talk about cars, hoes, money, and partying. You're right, i might have jumped a little quick at saying he's one of the best, but right now, at this point he is. And in 5 years, you'll look back and say, well shit, that Makaveli guy was right. Have you listened to ALL of Kanyes tracks on his albums?

Bonus quetsion, what does KRS-one stand for?

Best rapper alive, hmm? I will say that Jay-Z and Nas have been added to the top notch of artists. There are still people like KRS One, Rakim, and many old school people who can still hold their ground. Kayne is no way near one of the bests, I do enjoy his music, though. Eminem is extremely talented, but 95% of his music is now just crap. He can be quoted here and there, but when the other 15 tracks on his album are about dookie.. yeah. Everything after Infinite was not worth buying. 50 Cent is a fraud, no where near best alive. There are many unknowns who I enjoy, and consider greats. Chino XL, Scarface, Immortal Technique (already), etc.

Best alive now though, can go between Jay-Z and Nas. They both have albums coming out relatively soon, so it's really on pause. I have a feeling Jay-Z's album will be mostly club bangers, as usual. The Nas will have more of a meaning behind it all. If you look at their careers they've both had their ups and downs, so I can't pick just one.

This is plain Sad. Em, the best rapper alive. Ha. Lyrics Born wipes the stage with his little skate board beats. I mean what you kids call "rap" these days is horrible. What ever happened to K-Rino, SPC, and real hip hop... It's all dead and gone.. Really though, I can't say there is a best alive, all I know is Quannum Crew (Gift of Gab/Blackalicious, Lyrics born/Asia Born, Lateef... all them), totally shred every artist in here.

I'm not trying to rip on your "rap" but if you are actually interested in lyricists rather than radio rap you should check out
Lyrics Born: Same shit Different day
Blackalicious: Nia

And then if you want to hear something a little more "gangster" check out K-rino: Danger Zone. Hell even B.G. for that matter.

Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone. I agree with you on Jay-Z, and on 50 Cent. 50 is just a punk who understood that conflict sold records.. But even that gets old after awhile. As for Eminem, I agree that a few of his songs are stupid. But even in the stupidity, he's saying something. Except for "Just loose it".. That track is retarded.

I'm a devout hater of rap, but I find Eminem entertaining. I like some of Akinyele's songs, too. "Put It in Your Mouth," is probably Akinyele's best (and most famous) work. There's another one that's entertaining to me. I don't remember his name, though. Scarface? I think that's his name, but I'm not sure. His song was playing when "Michael Bolton" was rapping in the car at the start of Office Space. If nothing else, I get a laugh out of it whenever I hear the song. The "back up in your ass with the resurrection" song from that movie is also funny.

None of you guys know anything about rap. None of the rappers you've mentioned are even close to the best alive right now.

Cormega
AZ
Pete Rock & C.L Smooth
the new trife and ghost joint,
Rappin 4-Tay

these just first off top of my head. Cormega is ten times the rapper then any of those fools. One of most underrated of all time.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=xqJDHfrIeBA

http://youtube.com/watch?v=TQ1cEWLlQC8 (one of my favorite rap videos of all time)

these arent even his best tracks.

"The saga begins
I'm a reflection of the drama within,
the ghe-tto I live in, niggas Moms on crack - Pops just disappeared
first time you get locked up who really cares?
I see a little snotty nosed kid with his sneakers on backwards
sleep' on a mattress, when I go to make a sale
at times I wonder, are we goin' straight to Hell?
or does God realize we're tryin' to make it as well
my sleep is interrupted by food on the stove,
not gun shots - we're immune to those
some of my friends first bids are two to fours
others - on the run with huge rewards
Mothers watch Son's walk through the doors
for the last time 'till they go view at the morgue
life is deep, we all just tryin' to eat
rap's a mental narcotic, I supply the streets"

"Live niggas I rep for, deceased I pour Moet for
those incarcerated, my heart is wit' y'all -
I know at times it gets hard behind penetentiary bars
then once free you realize you're mentally scarred
if not physically, if subjected to correctional facilities
prepare for your future to the best of your ability - prosper otherwise
you've been conquered
blowin' up your mother's phone so she can send you a box
Son, I sit inside my residence
and thank God I'm blessed with this poetical gift evident in every
ghetto like graffiti and crack sales
and cabs that won't stop for Black Males
undercovers givin' younger Brothers bad stares
Fours clap, Dogs crap in the grass here
you love to hear the story Son, the saga began here
MC's are fictitious yet the actual facts here
like the Bible said, Jesus had napped hair"

eminem, kanye aren't what rap really is.
