Even if I enabled 480p with the diagram from the beginning?

and i am using evox, which op said has things already are enabled... what does he mean?

Here is what I have.

Xbox with Evox.

projector with DVI, VGA , Svideo, composite input.

since the max res for it is 1024x768, highest mode I can achieve is 480p .

I dont have much $$ now and was wondering if I used wired trick to simulate HD av pack plugged in, would I be able to carry 480p through S-video?

it is impossible to carry a progressive signal over s-video. s-video gives a sharp 480i, but if you're looking for 480p, composite and vga are your only options. if your projector supports 1024x768, then 720p should work fine.

I made a component cable today for my second xbox using my old original composite and analog audio cables, along with a female rca cable I had for the coaxial digital audio.

I even used cat5e cable because I cut the original cable too short, so I only used 1 foot of the original cable.

I can't tell the difference between the MS one either, looks the same.

How is that possible when 720p's resolution is 1280x720?

if s-video can't carry progressive signal.. i guess my only choice (or at least better..) would be VGA cable.

If you have a projector that accepts HDTV signals (check the manual) and if it accepts the component signals but as the 15pin VGA style plug not the tripple RCA cables, like my digital projector, an option is to buy an xbox component cable, a three cable RCA joiner, and a male RCA to Male VGA adapter cable. You can then join the xbox cable and the adapter to plug into the projector (your projector will then be set to YPbPr on component mode.)

Cost:
$10 for the component xbox cable
$3 for the joiner
$7 for the adapter
total of $20

or you could similarly make a VGA adapter for you xbox if you buy the parts and solder it together, and use this like the above setup, or as a PC input on your projector or a PC monitor.

total price: about $20 if you already have a soldering iron.

check my sig for one of the many tutorials on making this cable.

has anyone made a diagram on how to make the cable with a vga extender (vga plug is male) and i know the wires of all the different pins on the vga side... and the xbox avip plug? I still have not found a diagram for it... all of them are either for plugs on the motherboard or female vga plugs so i can't figure it out... I have all the lm1881n pieces, just cant get the cable to work. The monitor I am trying to use it with is a 19" LCD without sync on green, that shouldnt be causing any problems right?

Many people have had problems with LCDs and xbox vga. Try it out with another monitor to test your connection.

should put that next to the diagram so people know it likely wont work with big lcd monitors, i wouldn't have wasted the money and time on the cable if i knew ahead of time there was no way to get it to work.

That would be component and VGA.

Where would you go about findind these in the above prices? (Perticularly the xbox component cable, the others are generally cheap...). I'm assuming you don't mean the MS HDTV pack?

this would require that the prjoector/LCD/monitor im going to use must have sync on green feature. correct?

how can I find out? manufacturer's manual does not specify it..

right, its not the MS HDTV pack. just go into a gamestop or ebgames or whatever and find a used component xbox av cable, they should be about $10 third party. Or you could buy one on ebay for about $8-$11

If you want to just make the joiner without using an LM1881 chip then yes, you will need a SOG monitor. you can check if yours is at http://playstation2-linux.com/sog.php

however, i'm assuming all projectors can deal with SOG since thats the format theyd recieve from component input, so if you have a projector you're fine. Otherwise check that out.

Hey,
I have a crappy tv and I made a vga output on my box so I could enjoy some HD.
I installed the Ind 5001 Vga bios, and it boots nicely on my crappy tv.
But then, the tut on the front page says:

You must turn the xbox on in High Def A/V Mode with a normal TV (or HDTV) hooked up, turn on Progressive Scan Mode (480p) in the MS Dashboard, turn the xbox off, enable VGA Mode with you VGA Monitor hooked up, and turn on your XBox.

But the problem is the first part: I canīt get into High Def Mode because when I set the switches 2 and 3 to on and plug in my usual (standard) cable, switch on also gets switched on. So I cant get into High Def blink.gif
How do I switch to 480p on my crappy tv, to get some image on my VGA monitor?
Or do I need to find out how to do it blindly? If so, does anybody know the code?
Is it essential to switch to 480p to get image on a vga monitor?
